This is correct... beat me to it.

You can go over 1250* for short periods of time, I have seen 1800* before, just dont do it every day or after a long hard pull.

Beat me to it again.

An IC will certainly help a lot, but these trucks handle heat GREAT w/out ic's. 99% of 12v and 24v cummins even WITH ic's will get too hot without a load and just doggin around. That sure says something for these non-intercooled 7.3's.

egt also greatly depend on if your probe is before or after the tubo, i have seen 100-200 degree variences between the two....

The old pre/post turbo arguement. It's not 1999 anymore. I would hope everyone is putting their egt probe in before the turbo, on the exhaust manifold. :humm:

This thread got me curious about how other makes/engines handle heat. I posted the question in the towing/hauling section, but havn't gotten any replies yet.

Still no response, are fords that bad?

fordornothing 05-30-2012 07:47 PM

bad? i think 1100 ish pulling 15k doing 65 is good!

Fuelfool 05-30-2012 09:46 PM

fords do seem to build a lot of egt heat, mainly due to the smashed flat oem downpipe (obs trucks) the super slugush eom turbocharger not spooling up untill extremely high drive pressure is produced, keep them wound up and the run resonably cool, but try and pull down like a cummins and the egt's go off the chart. with some minor work like 3" downpipe, a turbine housing swap and eliminate the cat and ebp device you can run a psd nice and hard without worring about high egt imho...

This question was intended to drum-up interest in an inter make discussion in the Towing/Hauling section and not to hijack this thread.
