Odd Event/96.5 -7.3 PS/250k Birthday

hey strokers....i had an odd experience on the 250K mi. birthday of my stroker. i left an RV park with a warm motor__shifted into third and the check engine light came on and the motor almost died? i pulled off the road (truck still running_barely) opened hood_seemed to be running on only 1 bank (driverside). i peaked around, no leaks or obvious problems. i turned the ignition off, looked harder for anything amiss (nothing found) turned ignition to on and started___viola!!! no more problem. Any thoughts on what this may be a warning towards? are the fuel injectors seperated one bank from the other?

bet the uvch is loose... if you scan the truck for that code, it will tell you exactly...

thanks "95 powersmoker" uvch? is that like a muffler gasket:s: i dont have access to diagnostics. is this something i could just physically check for loose or tight?

Uvch = under valve cover harness. You can check those by lifting the valve covers. Its most likely that plug going into the valve cover gasket on either side.

Yup. What James said. More then likely one plug or the other is bad or going bad. You have two plugs on each side, one for the back two injectors and glow plugs and one for the front.

You can check the exterior plugs first, might get lucky and find one unplugged.

Pick up some dielectric grease and fill those connections with it before reconnecting them.

ok this is kinda strange but i had almost the same problem today but i was crusin down the road and the truck just died out and the cel, abs, and wts light all came on and then a few seconds later it fired up and ran fine the rest of the day but one issue i have noticed is my battery cable was loose so could that be what caused it???

95powersmoker 05-15-2012 09:55 AM

It could be the issue.. Again, getting that code will tell the tale...

thanks for all the thoughts, i will peek around. as i recall i broke a clip (plastic) on the exterior side of the wire harness (glow plug/injectors) on the right front bank when i was testing continuity on the glow plugs a year or so ago. Cleaned all the grounds when i was trouble shooting (not starting when cold) bad glow plugs (i thought my batteries werent performing) Luv my PSD:humm:

I would start by checking that broken plug... It might not be making full contact which would have shut down those injectors from firing... The IDM would then shut down that bank...

ya check your plug to make see if it is bad or anything wrong there. also it could be your cam positioning sensor. one of our trucks did this ever time the check engine light came on. it basiclly shut the truck down to half power, in which it went into limp mode. i scanned the truck and it poped up with that code. changed sensor and no more problem. but scan it and it will tell you everything
