1997 7.3 powerstroke
i have a 97 powerstroke with soon to be dp-tuner. but i have a cold air intake straight pipe, 9in lift, 35in tires. i was wondering what all upgrades i can do to add pwer but keep my motor from blowing up! thanks

Your motor is fine to 500 HP its the transmission that blows up. I am not sure which transmission you have but get a bts if its auto or a southbend clutch for the 5 'r. Then upgrade the motor.
Search around and do all of your maintenance to the truck before modifying. sent from my rooted Evo android 2.3.7 using tapatalk. and not a opod |
You can do anything you want. It's all in the tuning and they way you drive.

Also involves having deep pockets and including supporting mods into your power plant. Not just power mods...

ok thanks for the feedback, but could you name some mods? i want to get 100hp injectors, and a 17* HPOP, can someone tell me if the new HPOP is nesessary? also what upgrades vwould i need to support the injectors? i know these are stupids questions... but this is my first diesel. thanks for your help!:tu:

First you need to figure out what these "100 horse" injectors are.

well i just would like to do things slowly, because money is short but i im not sure what i should do next? do you have anything in mind?

Exhaust intake gauges chip. Then drive it. Forget about the rest because it becomes nothing but a money pit after that...

Stay away from (xx horsepower) injectors. You will have no way of knowing what you are getting and therefore, you won't be able to tune for them (and they won't tell you). You and your tuner will want to know the capacity and nozzle size. Capacity is measured in CC's and nozzle size wil be % over stock. See a reputable injector site like Rosewood. His site will explain what you want to know.
If your doing injectors on a OBS 7.3 you should upgrade the fuel system to external regulated return set up so they are not starved for fuel. If money is short, I wait and save up so you can bring the power adders and supporting mods (fuel system, HPX, trans, Head studs (depending on boost)) on at the same time...other wise your spending a lot of money and not getting much. When you get your DP tuner, talk to Jody and he should be able to help you map out a plan for mods and power. |
ok well that helped alot! thanks fro your help fellas!

First get gauges. Run the truck for a week stock to make sure all numbers are where they should be. Custom tunes to get more performance stage one injectors and a boost cooler and even a bigger turbo. But not to much bigger bs diesel makes a turbo called thrusters 2 that's how I would build a mild modes truck.
