Down pipe problem

I finally got around to installing my Down pipe on, and I am having a really bad rubbing noise/vibration when stopping (below 15mph) and at idle. It's driving me crazy. Idk if it is because i didn't cut enough room for the down pipe or what. Maybe it's rubbing on the cab to much. i was just seeing if anyone else has a solution or an answer. Thanks

yeah get a bar and push the DP in every direction you can to kinda re shape it. that's what i did lol

97powerstroker 01-02-2012 04:58 PM

Even after it's installed?

fordornothing 01-02-2012 05:20 PM

yep. or deal with it and eventually it will stopp rubbing. how big is the DP?

97powerstroker 01-02-2012 05:44 PM

Just the two peice MBRP 3 inch

fordornothing 01-02-2012 05:58 PM

huh. i know i had on on my 96 that was 3" then to 3 1/2" half way down, then 4" at the bottom and it was a rubbing SOB. then my 94 i had just a 2 piece 3". not sure whose it was.

97powerstroker 01-02-2012 06:07 PM

And the 3 in rubbed?

fordornothing 01-02-2012 06:28 PM

no it didn't. it was actually loose where the two prts met. so i think that helped

97powerstroker 01-02-2012 06:30 PM

Huh, well ill beat it around

fordornothing 01-02-2012 06:41 PM

you'll just have to screw with it.

95powersmoker 01-03-2012 04:00 PM

Take the pipe back out and go get yourself a portapower... Don't just let it rub, it will rub a hole in your dp and then all this was a waste.

85_305 01-03-2012 05:44 PM

Pull out a pry bar and start beating in your firewall.

97powerstroker 01-04-2012 10:41 PM

Well i drove it around for the last couple of days and it seems to be getting better. Before when it was really bad i couldn't budge the thing at all by hand and now it has a little wiggle. should i still worry about it because it might get a little better

85_305 01-05-2012 07:34 PM

Well it's probably not fixing itself... it's probably making something else all fubar'd

fordornothing 01-05-2012 07:46 PM

well on my 96 it rubbed. then in about a week it stopped making noise.

97powerstroker 01-09-2012 10:10 PM

I've had it now for about a week and it hardly rubs at all now so i'm gonna let it sit for a while and then pull it apart and take a look see at what it's done

CSIPSD 01-10-2012 10:23 AM

lol...

95powersmoker 01-10-2012 09:24 PM

I can tell you from experience what mine has done... wrecked a trans cooler line because I said ah, it's fine, no worries... ya until my truck is pissin trans fluid everywhere...

Just make sure it's clear of everything otherwise it will cost you later... Like I said before, take it out, get a portapower and make the room for it...
