glow plug trick

thease plugs will come out with a 10 mm deep socket. Just remember that you cant back the plugs out all the way . The socket will get stuck against the rocker arm and you will jam everything up. After you get it about half out you need to use a piece of tubing to put over the glow plug and twist it out. It works well but I had to figure it out the hard way.

Or you can take and grind the sides of the socket down so it will fit.

I got them all changed, not too much drama. There was a little binding on the rocker as I took them out, but not too bad. Now we'll see how well it starts in the morning! :D

The sensor I was talking about is not really anything... it looks like someone used some silicon to do something and got the intake boot stuck to the rear injector/plug harness, so it didn't want to come out... That's what the first pic is.

The second pic is of a mystery wire in the valley below the Y pipe coming off the turbo.... It looked like a red with white stripe... If anyone knows what it is, or should go to, let me know...

i have no idea what's in the first picture. the second one almost looks like it goes to the fuel bowl. either the water sensor or the fuel heater.

Not terribly chilly this morning, but it fired right up! I'm glad to know that I can park it where ever I want now, and not worry about being near an outlet... Hehe

The silicon on the intake boot is kind of strange... There's not cracks on the inside of the boot indicating that they tried to patch a hole. However the end of the boot that is clamped to the turbo has definitely seen better days. So maybe I can't see what they were trying to fix... It all works for now, so I'm not too concerned....

I'll take a closer look at the fuel bowl and see if I can find where that wire should go... Thanks!

on the "orange tube" yes that is ford's technical name for it. can tear right at the bottom around the clamp. maybe that's what they were trying to fix. when i replaced mine i paid over $100 for the upgraded hose. IIRC, there should be two small studs on the drivers side of the fuel bowl. it's been a while since i looked at a OBS fuel bowl.

wrong connector for the heater, must be the water sensor.

2ndGen 11-20-2011 12:15 AM

I found the lower connector on the drivers side of the fuel bowl was missing, so I hooked that wire up to it, and fired it up, no lights or scary things.... So I'm assuming that everything is ok, and that I don't have water in the fuel... :D

Thanks for all the help here guys. I just found out that I got a job in Antarctica, so I left the truck with my dad for the winter, and will be back to play with it in March... :c:
