wastegate

I bought a 97 powerstroke 160k 3rd owner i let it warm ip for ten minutes then go to work mywaste gate seems to be stuck closed only bettween about 5-10 pounds of boost even after about 10 miles of drivingi loose all boost and it hisses like crazy out exhaust it is 35-40 degrees out.?

No waste gate on these. Your EBPV is still closed. It wont open until it warms the oil temperature up enough. The hissing is the ebpv trying to keep teh engine oil warm... when the ebpv opens it will make a "POP" and all you will hear is exhaust (or turbo if your exhaust is big)

Unplug it and be done... Just under the intake side of the turbo is a little plug...

that will make the truck take forever to warm up though. Keep that in mind

Lol.... No it won't... Mine warms up the same with or without it doing what it does...

Perhaps thats how it works for you over in WA... no clue. But i know people that have timed the truck to reaching operating temps with and without the ebpv, and without using the ebpv the times were increased.

Plus, who can complain about a factory exhaust brake? hehe

Does that seem lke it is acting up though warming up for 10 mins and it doing it 20 mins later of driving?

95powersmoker 11-07-2011 05:36 PM

Sounds like it might be acting up... I would just unplug it. I have mine unplugged and have absolutely zero problem with my truck warming up.

get a ts chip with high idle if you are worried about warm up time. I like mine

it works better as a exhaust break than it does as a warm up feature.
