King Pin VS. Balljoint

looking into getting a dana 60 pretty soon. I know you can either put the King pin older axle in or the newer balljoint axle. whats the difference between the two and which would be better to go with or is it just a matter of preference?

u can us a kingpin out of a dually thats what i did and used my dana 50 hubs spindles etc. kingpins alot stronger than the ball joint

what makes it stronger?

It's not any stronger than a ball joint front axle. To be honest, the "c" on the Ford kingpin knuckle is very weak (thin) and the trunions are very close together (think unit hub bearings vs. fixed spindle and the distance between them).

I like ball joint ones better simply because the only things that go bad are the ball joints. Ever rebuilt a kingpin? Setting caster or camber; not with a king pin. Also, if you plan on running large tires, plan on spending money on bushings to replace the springs.

srry ley me rephrase that on my wheeler kingpin i like alot better and think there stronger off road use and also love the highstreer/crossover steering

Well, any of the axles that will fit in the OP's truck will have "cross-over" steering. "High steer" is a little easier with a bearing-trunion (kingpin) axle, but it CAN be done on a ball joint axle as well. These are pictures of my '95:
