WHat next???

I have a 1997 Ford F-250 Ext Cab Long Wheel base. It has a K&N aftermarket air filter and a stock straight pipe. What should I do next? If anyone has a cheaper chip that they wann sell let me know.

Is that K&N a drop in style filter? Those have been known to not seal correctly and let dirt by them taking out the compressor wheel...Might want to think about a Napa 6637 air filter, it does a much better job filtering...

Gauges would be next, then a chip...

a diffrent intake and a chip would be a good start.

Oh I gotcha, Its an open filter style. That's much better than the drop in style...

I would get an EGT gauge...

Even if you buy a used chip, you most likely will need a reburn... I'll keep my eyes peeled for a cheap TS style chip..

Alright. I am little new to this, but i have been aroud diesels all my life just never tuned them alot. What does an EGT measur? Where would i install it? WHat is a reburn?

EGT is Exhaust Gas Temperature... Very important thing to monitor. You would install the probe by drilling and tapping the drivers side exhaust manifold.

A reburn on a chip is getting the chip tuned for your truck. If you buy a used chip from a truck that doesn't have the same PCM code as you, you will need a reburn for it to work in your truck...

OK. What do you put in the exhaust manifold. Do they sale a kit for EGT? What should the temperature be around? How do you do a reburn?
:humm:

Yes sir, when you buy the gauge, it should come with the probe and wiring...
Temps should be around 400-600* when cruising and no higher than 1250*

For a reburn, you would have to send it off to a custom tuner and pay a reburn fee...

About how much is both of them?

95powersmoker 03-11-2011 10:21 PM

I think I got my EGT gauge for like 100 bucks or something... Post up in the vendor section and see what they can do for you..

Reburns on average are 100-150 bucks depending on who you go with...

Sounds good. How do you have your duals run? Do you like them?:tu:

Ya, I like em... They need some 6" tips though. It's just a 3" Diamond Eye downpipe to 4" straight pipe to the splitter on out.

That looks great? Thats what i want to do to mine, but like you said with some bigger tips. I guess it will all come with time though. Does yours have a leveling kit?
