horrible fuel mileage
no smoke at all rollin.
runs fine but getting bad fuel milage trucks bone stock, any ideas?! thanks. |
Changed the fuel filter recently?
|
no i havnt, i just bought the truck and its due for and oil change, i mean i put the trip on zero with exactly half a tank of fuel and went like 75 miles and i was almost out
|
Yea change the fuel filter, air filter and oil i bet you will see a real big change in mileage.
|
Yeah but I get 200 miles from full to half a tank then about 120 on the last half, so it may not be as bad as you think
|
Yeah im not getting anything close to that. More like how many gallons to the mile
|
You may not be far off... Fill it up. Drive it 200 miles. Fill it back up. Take miles driven divided by how much fuel you put back in it. Let us know what that is.
If you just bought the truck, change the oil, fuel filter, what kind of air filter does it have? Is it stock exhaust? Key to these trucks are let them breathe. 6637 intake and 4" exhaust with 3" downpipe. |
I am in Peoria now for a few more weeks, if you would like I can hook up to it with Auto Enginuity and see what comes up, run a few tests.
If its stock you will get no smoke, so I would not be concerned there. More then likely with almost 200k the up pipes are leaking badly. |
Thanks.for the good info. Yeah the truck is bone stock with the restrictive down pipe and intake. So im sure that's got alot to do with it.
And the gguy that in peoria. What u mean pipes are leaking wouldn't I see smoke anyway folding from somewhere |

I might have to swap those out

Its not easy... Its not fun... So if there not leaking then dont bother. http://inlinethumb07.webshots.com/41...600x600Q85.jpg Your collector will be different on the OBS, as this is a superduty set up, but you can see the black soot on the up pipe from the leaking up pipe gasket. |
Dude awesome info I appriciate it. Where would I pick some of this doughnuts up
|
Ford sells them, as does NAPA... I am sure our vendors can get them as well... Maybe hit up RiffRaff Diesel, I get alot of maintance things from him.
You can get nice Brass ones from Beans Diesel Performance |
Would it be a bad thing to go from motorcraft oil to rotella
|
Nope... I run Delo, but mostly because wal-mart has it on sale from time to time and I have about 30 gallons of it at home.
I have to do an oil change this weekend and will pick up what ever is cheapest at Wal-Mart, or maybe my local Orileys...LOL Biggest thing, Diesel rated 15-40... |
Let me know what store you work at if you want, I will swing by and you can look over my truck and I can scan yours if you want.
|
Ill get u the filters for way cheaper Haha. But that will have to be Outta the store. But for sure
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- So I think I figured out why my fuel milage sucked. Fuel filter was black and air filter was impacted with dirt |
That will help! Fuel filter should be changed every 8-10k max, oil every 3-5k and air filter as needed.
|
No, run rotella as soon as you can, we run 15w-40 in all three of our powerstrokes, along with lucas oil stabilizer, but dont run the lucas stuff in the winter, its like honey when its cold. in summer I run one or two quarts of the lucas oil stabilizer.
|
Thanks for the help y'all changed my filters and I got a little better fuel mialage but can't really say so seeing I was draggin a car on a hauled since I filled up

DO NOT RUN LUCAS in your powerstroke. The WORST thing you can do on a powerstroke is add that stuff. It foams very bad, and foam is the worst thing you can have on a HEUI injector. It will score the internals of the injector, it will hurt your mileage and power. Its not bad stuff for other stuff, but do NOT add it to your HEUI powerstroke. |
Ima run straight oil lol. I don't trust those addatives
|
Two weeks ago when i bought oil, it was 11 bucks a gallon at Walmart for Delo400.
|
You van get the delo400 at most vostcos I got some last time for 5 bucks off it was like 28 bucks for 3 gallons
|
This morning I had my truck outside warming up and I noticed a few drops of fuel. Anyone else have this problem

Coming from the motor or tanks or somewhere in between?
Most likely its the fuel bowl drain valve. They are a common leak. |
if its the drain bowl valve, go to diesorings.com 6 bucks for all three o-rings great quality even better service and theres a step by step guide with pictures on the sight on assembly and reassembly
|
Top of motor. I put a new fuel filter in it. Tightend it. But I've smelled fuel before. Where's the bowl located
|
the bowl is what the fuel filter goes in, it could be that you didnt get it sealed all the way.

I just bought a filter from Autozone and had to return 3 of them, couldn't get the dam thing to seal all the way... Should of gone with a different brand after the first time but no one around hear had one... Anyways just start the truck and look/feel around the fuel bowl if it is leaking it's pretty obvious. And, look in top of the engine for fuel that's already leaked out soak that up so you can see if you're leaking more, that's also what you could be smelling |

If you changed the fuel filter, then you know where the fuel bowl is. Check behind the fuel bowl, there is a yellow valve there. They love to leak from, out and around that yellow valve. |
So I calculated my fuel milage I dumped in 15 gallons and went 167 miles to my rear tank. That comes to 11.13 miles per gallon towing a flagged with a shitbox chyrsler on it
|
have you hooked the truck up to a scanner?
