BIG problem!!!!
96 psd it started off i was crusing about 50 and the truck lost power and started throwing white smoke. well i stopped and started back up. when i hit about 2200 rpm after that it started making a weird noise kind of like a rod knocking. well i tapped the gas pedal a few times and eventually it went away. i pulled it in the garage and took the intake off and noticed the compressor wheel blades were shot so i rebulit the turbo and added a bd compressor wheel. i finally finished everything up today and all the way to the gas station it was blowing blue smoke so i put some fuel in it and drove it some more thinking it may clear up but didnt so i put it in the garage to notice oil dripping out of the exhaust and pouring from the " return line?" on the passenger side oil pan.
i guess what i am getting at is if anyone knows a possible solution to my problem i would like to know. i am new to all this diesel stuff and right now not having a good expierence lol thanks [[ChRiS]] |
white smoke is due to lack of fuel, blue smoke is usually blowby, if you have oil in your exaust you probably have a bit of piston ring wear, check how much oil it uses and pull the dipstick out while the engine is running, if it puffs smoke you have some blowby. good luck.:rocking:

well it uses some oil.... how do you fix blow by or is it bad?
|
anyone have opinions? im in need of some help......:argh::argh::argh:
|
the way to fix blowby is replace the rings on the pistons which mean pretty much a complete rebuild of the engine....

well i was going to do a compression test last night but the kit didnt come with a glow plug adapter so i decided its going to the shop tomorrow. one guy said it sounded like the hpop.

Possible an injector is not seated properly. That will blow oil out the exhaust too.

Could be just burning the oil out of the exhaust also. I put a turbo on a 24v common rail and it blue smoked for about 500 miles after it warmed up a bit and after a while it quit. It was dripping oil out of the whole in the muffler. Probably leaked out a 1/2 gallon while it was setting in the shop.

We had a truck at work do this and it was an injector that stuck open. I wouldn't drive it anymore until you figure it out. It cost us an engine because it melted the piston and scored the cylinder.
