1997 E4OD Problems
 

I just bought a 1997 obs psd with the auto and 4x4. PO told me trans was slipping. I drove the truck home 2 hours with no noticible slippage. Got up next day drove around town did fine. Parked in a friend's driveway went to leave and would barely move. Had to build boost for it to creep. Any advice before I take it in? Rebuild a necessity at this time? Any trans good trans shops in southern ohio?

The truck will shift normally when there is no slippage. If it is slipping it acts like it doen't know what to do. Reverse is fine with no noticable slippage. It will move you just have to give it fuel and build up to 2500-2800rpm before it will move when it decides to act up.

Very likely a bad torque converter if it does it every time you drive it. If not, it's either a tired converter about to go completely or a pump problem. Check for burn't fluid. A rebuild should be considered instead of just a replacement converter or pump if mileage is high or fluid appears burn't.

Doesn't do it everytime only sometimes. Fluid does smell burnt and the truck has 190,000 miles so i'm pretty sure i'm going to go for the rebuild. Any advice for transmission shops or upgrades to be done for longevity of the trans?

Thanks for the quote! I have the truck at my local mech currently and He's going to flush the trans and check the tps as apparently that will cause some acting up. If it all goes to hell I'll keep you in mind for the rebuild!

check the trans fluid is it full and how dirty is it? drop the pan and see if the screen is block with what ever it you see a river of silver when you drop the pan you might need to rebuild it but the condition of the trans fluid and is it the right fluid? Ford got picky about what goes in what trans it might have the wrong fluid. good luck do some checking before spending lots of money it may be a simple fix.:tu::jump::pca1:
