Powerstroke dip stick tube

Ok heres the story, at about 12:30 last nite my future father in law calls me and says that there is oil all over the place under his truck! Wrapped it up underneath :scare2: so ofcourse I tell him to check the oil filter and all to see if its tight and hasn't come loose....its tight...so im thankin maybe the front or rear seal my be gone. Well he is in williamston nc which is about an hour and 15 min away from home. He cant drive it so I hook the trailer to the trusty cummins and away we go! My dad and I get there and there is oil all over the place!!! We look under it but only have a flash light so we couldnt see much. Anyway...amazingly there is enough oil in the truck to run!! I was shocked!! So it must not have been blowin oil very long. We got it loaded up and headed home. We got home this morning at 5:30!! Long night! So after a few hours of sleep we went to our shop and put the truck on the lift....like i said oil EVERYWHERE!!! So we get to looking around and after a few min (and a can of brake cleaner) we find that the oil dip stick tube is loose where it connects to the oil pan! Has anybody ever had this happin?? If so how did you fix it? The only way I see to fix it is pull the oil pan...but do you have to pull the engine to do that??? Is there another fix?? The truck is a 1996 F350 4x4 Powerstroke.

I'm not sure how to fix that exactly, but you should be able to remove the pan with out pulling the motor..... every time i have ever pulled an oil pan we would unbolt the motor mounts and lift the motor just enough to get the pan out.... my old thunderbird had the dipstick tube pull out, and all i did was silicone it back in place, you might not want to do that on a diesel tho... Good Luck!

You are gonna have too lift the motor up about 4 inches to get the oil pan off, but the ammount of oil you are talking about sounds like alot more than a loose dipstick. Sounds more like a high pressure oil line or possibly a blown oring on the turbo.

i agree, a loose dipstick tube wont make that big of a mess. how many miles are on the truck? i believe there is an o-ring around the tube where it enters the pan, if not its a clip on the other side so you would have to take the pan out anyway. while the pans out you might as well get a new one so you dont end up doing it again, they're famous for pans rotting out.

Hey guys. The problem was the dipstick tube. The nut had backed off and it screwd up the threads so we had to put a new nut on it. Fixed it
