HP limit on stock transmission

Just curious how much horsepower I can push on my stock transmission.
Thanks:yeah:

ltr450 09-15-2009 11:02 PM

i would say 100hp over stock maybe if you have a lite foot

PSD 09-15-2009 11:10 PM

Really 100 hp? I'm thinking about getting a chip, but I'm kind of worried about wrecking something. But, even if I had the chip set on 100 hp, I would not have a full 100 hp gain since I have stock injectors and so on... if I am correct ?

ltr450 09-15-2009 11:20 PM

i know that the stock autos on the cummins can only hold 60hp over stock the fords same to have better auto trans thing is how many miles are on your stock trans do you tow alot. i know on the cummins a 100hp chip will give you 100hp even with stock injctors. but the fords are different.

PSD 09-15-2009 11:23 PM

My truck has 205,xxx miles on it and the transmission was rebuilt within the last year. I do little to no towing at all, and if anything it wouldn't be anything high in weight. Appreciate your help by the way.

ltr450 09-15-2009 11:29 PM

i think you would be find with a chip make sure you get one that you can adjust while driving that way you can turn it down if you go an tow something. but like i said if you keep your foot out of it and drive normal i don't think you would have a issue. you could save your money and buy a good trans. or just put in a good tc. it all depends how much hp you want to push.

PSD 09-15-2009 11:33 PM

My motor seems a little tired. It is definatly on the downside in power. Im not looking for extreme pulling power, street racing speed, or mass amounts of smoke (well, maybe a little), but just a little bit more "get up and go".

ltr450 09-15-2009 11:39 PM

i would say you would be find than

Thanks for the help.
If anyone else has input, go ahead.

ltr450 09-15-2009 11:48 PM

these ford guys on here take for ever to post just to let you know. there are more cummins fans on here. trust me my buddy had a 05 6.0 and every time i tired to get and answer i took for ever, but know he has a 0-7 cummins.

PSD 09-15-2009 11:53 PM

Haha, I'd love to have a cummins. This last summer, my goal was to have a diesel, and I was mainly looking at Powerstroke 7.3's and 12V cummins. The Powerstroke gave me the right price, and thats what I ended up with.

ltr450 09-16-2009 12:04 AM

the 7.3 is the best out of the fords the 6.0 are the worst. i would only own a cummins best engine out there. they make engines for everthing. i always tell people i never seen a big rig with a powerstroke or duaramax but every other big rig going down the high way has a cummins

PSD 09-16-2009 12:26 AM

Anyone ?

04redstroker 09-16-2009 02:29 PM

We have a 95 at work with an auto. We run superchips on race and it tows all day. Tranny is fine so far.

What about the T444E or MAXXFORCE 7, they are moslty used in medium duty, but there are quite a few used for hevy duty apps. I would have to disagree with the 6.0 bein the worst. It may take a little TLC to become reliable, but i love it, plus it doesnt have that damn uncomfortable dodge interior.lol

PSD0389 09-16-2009 02:38 PM

If its freshly rebuilt then with just a chip youll be fine, my remanned trans lasted 2 years, had a chip from day one and by the time I had all the mods on my truck that I do now, the trans was toast. It also depends on how you drive the truck

PSD 09-16-2009 05:49 PM

Appreciate the answers everyone.

And I definatly agree on the uncomfortable dodge interior...

Thanks everybody :U:

4in lift and 33"s?????? We just put 35s on my bros 94.5 with lots of room to spare. You could probably run 37, with no lift, and definatly with a level.

ltr450 09-16-2009 07:16 PM

04redstoker i said powerstorkes or duramax are not use in big rigs.

PSD 09-16-2009 07:42 PM

I used to have 35" swampers on, ran em bald, and didnt have too much cash on hand, so... I settled with the 33" A/T's. They look pretty good actually. Much quieter also !

The T444E and MAXXFORCE are powerstrokes. Just different badges for the medium and heavy duty.

ltr450 09-16-2009 10:18 PM

i never seen one before and i work on rigs and went to school for it but i think ups has them.

04redstroker 09-16-2009 10:52 PM

Like I said, they are mostly medium duty, but i have seen them in heavy duty applications.

My original e4od lasted quite a while stock. Then I added just a chip and it still went for a while. It also had 120K miles at that time. When it did go i bought a ford reman. Lasted a week past warranty. Then, for about the same price as a reman, I had a custom rebuild from Goerend Bros. Lifetime gaurantee on tranny and 100K mile on t.c.
If and when yours does give out, be sure to get a heavy duty upgraded rebuild from a reputable shop.

7.3_stroker 09-17-2009 09:30 PM

Just run nitrous. Its safe and efficient. ALOT of nitrous. It makes alot of nice white smoke. And rods fly threw the hood. Its all good :c:

(Under no circumstances do this)

PSD0389 09-17-2009 11:14 PM

Rods go through the bottom of an engine not the top, there is no way they are going through those thick heads

i believe u got the warranty backwards, its 100k on tranny and lifetime on the TC

now for over stock, with a somewhat fresh tranny, i would have to say 50-100 at the wheels, should hold you two -three years, then drop a bts tranny into it :U:

PSD 09-18-2009 11:09 AM

Thanks guys:U:
I think I'll just run some nitrous. Haha.

Ya you only see Cummings and international... International 7.3 "powerstroke" haha just sayin

97t444e 06-11-2012 04:42 PM

i have seen countless school busses, trash trucks with 7.3s in them and i have also seen busses and big box trucks with 6.0s and 6.4s
T444E=7.3l
VT365=6.0l
MAXXFORCE 7=6.4l

97powerstroker 06-11-2012 11:51 PM

I had 120,000 on a remand tranny. Shifted fine before i put a ts on it, then about 2 months later it was screwed!:ouch:

And 37's on a leveled truck? i put 285/70/17's on my 97 and it rubbed the bumper bad. :scare2:

And I've also seen a couple of log loaders with 6.0's in them. :rocking:

fordornothing 06-12-2012 05:27 PM

why did we revive a 3 year old thread?

97powerstroker 06-12-2012 11:22 PM

Ha! i didnt even notice....

97psdcoal 06-19-2012 03:04 PM

I have a 97 with an automatic and want to get a ts 6 position chip but also afraid of what's gonna happen down the road bc I plan on baby swamps and just don't know if it wld be worth it really
