COST FOR 4X4 CONVERSION

Just curious if anyone out there would know the cost, of parts and labor, to switch a 7.3 diesel 2wd 97' F250 ext-cab long bed with automatic to a 4x4 set up and is it difficult to do for your average joe or is it best to hire a pro to do it?:choochoo:

Last I knew, a guy switched from a full time front end to a part time, and it ended up running him $10k.

Yep, it can be done but usually not cheep, Unless your a good scrounger.. The front axle alone can set you back about a grand for a KP D60 then your going to need the Xfer case you can use a divorced set up which would be cheaper than finding a married tranny and case..

Check out http://www.fordtruckfanatics.com/forum and http://pirate4x4.com/forum/ UNLESS you have THICK skin I'd suggest sticking searches on pirate though, BUT when it comes to 4x4's they do know there shit.

best thing is try to find a donor truck.either 250 or 350 suspension(springs, spring hangers, all the same,on 4wd)main diff between 250 and 350 is front axle, best to find a wrecked 350.there will be alot of labor.at the least you will need a air compressor,1/2" heavy duty drill, die grinder, air chiesel,or torch ,impact, and someone to help you.you will need to find a front axle from 87-97.donor truck needs to be 92 -97,for parts or order hangers and stuff from a dealer, need to decide if you are going to lift the truck now would be the time
