intercooler setup

Was wonderin what a good tow/hot street ic setup would be. Would a air to water cooler be a good option? Thanks.

An air to air like everyone uses would be easier.

Which setup would you recomend?

joebob3093 12-12-2014 05:33 PM

i used an intercooler out of an 01 and fabbed my own pipes.

How hard is it to mount?

Mount is easy, piping is the harder part.

Would it be worth it just buying a kit. Banks or hypermax.

I think for towing a either water intercooler or air.. just have to run a big enough exchanger to dump the heat with a water set up.... I am trying to locate where to buy intercooler pipes for a 97 powerstroke.... I can make them but why if I can buy them?? anybody knows

joebob3093 12-14-2014 08:25 PM

Depends on how much you want to spend, I have about $150 into my setup and a kit is $1000+

joeldirt 12-14-2014 08:28 PM

I have read that people have used an intercooler from a 6.0 on a 97 7.3 they are on ebay really cheap!!!
thanks for the feed back

joeldirt 12-14-2014 08:30 PM

if I could get piping and maybe use one of those intercoolies!!
I could make my own

joebob3093 12-14-2014 09:37 PM

i bought pipes from a super duty and then modified them

I used a 7.3 all aluminum intercooler. The stock 7.3 super duty pipes are a good place to start, you will have to cut and make them fit
