Leaking fuel?

hey i own a 97 E350 powerstorke van. it leaks fuel during really cold starts. not sure from where. but was wondering where it might be leaking from? thanks

Where is it leaking fuel, top front of motor? Need more info.

i think its from the top of the motor. it hard to see cus there is no room under the hood of the van.

I would say to look around the fuel filter canister for a bad connection, and be sure the drain is closed all the way, confusing to think that it only leaks during a cold start.

someone told me its some of the Oring in some of the injustors. but that dont make any sense. cus i figure it would do it all the time if it was that. not just during really cold starts. if i plug it in it doesnt leak. but if i dont then it does

Exactly what engine is it, a powerstroke, the injectors are under the valve cover and cant leak outside the engine

dukeboyjoe 01-11-2013 09:42 PM

It's a 7.3 powerstroke

If it is a powerstroke and the injectors are leaking you should have fuel in the oil. The injectos are under the valve cover and wouldent leak to the outside of the engine.

that makes a lot of sense. cus when i asked someone and they said that i really didnt think that was the prob. i am used to working on cummins motors cus i used to own 2. now i own a powerstroke and gotta learn bunch of stuff again. could it be the injustor lines?

autostroker 01-14-2013 08:56 AM

no, there are no injector lines, the fuel goes into a gallery in the head and is fed ito the injectors from there. There should be two lines that come off the fuel filter canister, one to each head, that serves the injectors. Uses HPOP (high pressure oil pump) to inject the fuel at high pressure so that it atomizes as it enters the cylinder. the injector is opened by electrical impuse from the computer. ford diesel hasent had external injectors or injector lines since the day of the IDI 7.3L diesel, i believe that was back in 94 that they went to powerstroke like you have.
