Won't start

So I got everything pretty much done on my truck. I just put a zf5 in. Went to finally start it and nothing. The relay kicks on as it should and all the wts and lights like that come on. But when I turn the key there's nothing. An I missing something here? It's probably something stupid. I'm just really agrivated right now!:scare2:

did you hook up the starter? what about the small wire on the starter, or the relay on the passenger fender?

97powerstroker 08-03-2012 09:40 PM

Yeah the power and the exciter wire is hooked up. What about te relay? And does the little sensor that goes on the brake pedal have to be on? Is there a clutch posistioning sensor too?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Ok so I just found the clutch posistioning sensor deal. An I figured out that on the master cylinder where the sensor plugs in. I am missing that part. Idk how but I am. Is there a way to fool this thing into starting without it? Does this sound like my problem?

put the two wire for the saftey together and it should start. or put a wire to bypass it if you dont want to snip the plug.

97powerstroker 08-03-2012 10:59 PM

I'm pretty sure there's 3 wires. But I'll have to double check

madpogue 08-04-2012 10:04 PM

The clutch switch has four wires. The two closer to the firewall are for the starter. If your newly-installed pushrod has the switch, and you plugged it in, you should be good there.

Your problem is probably with the old automatic tranny wiring under the truck. Is the original auto tranny electrical connector / harness still in place? If so, you need to find the two wires associated with the neutral safety switch that's no longer there (since the auto tranny is no longer there) and jumper them.

RanchhandTCR 08-05-2012 12:02 AM

Sorry my bad you right, its four I should know from helping do my friend fummins project:argh: I have a Dodge train of thought:s:

97powerstroker 08-05-2012 06:55 PM

Yeah the piece that the plug plugs into is gone off the push rod. Do I need to even get it? Or do I just find the automatic part of the neutral safety switch like you said and jump them? An any idea which on o the wires that's gonna be?

madpogue 08-05-2012 11:22 PM

Yeah, just jump the neutral safety switch terminals under the truck. According to the '95 EVTM, the two red/black wires, positions 5 and 8 on the connector, are for the starter circuit.

So no switch on the pushrod? What about the wiring harness? When the truck was an automatic, it had a "block" plugged into it that jumpered both the cruise and the start circuits. Is it still there?

97powerstroker 08-06-2012 08:52 PM

Uhhh where is this block at? I havent yanked any of the old electrical off yet so i'm assuming so. An i might find a switch for the push rod tomorrow.
