2010 terrible mpg
Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't have bought the 5.4 or V10? This diesel gets around 10 mpg and my old 5.4 got 12 13 and the fuel was cheaper! I need a way to get better economy mpg because this just sucks I thought diesels were better on fuel than this - O and yes it does have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy more power but still. :dang:

my 2008 f450 6.4 diesel crewcab 4x4 auto with 60,000 miles gets 12.5 hooked up to trailer or empty. its 12.5 mpg all the time. its got a k and n intake only.
my 2009 f350 V-10 gas reg cab 4x4 auto with 15,000 miles with cakebox/haybed at best gets 9 mpg highway. 5 mpg when checking/feeding cows, All stock Both trucks are amazing in comfort and in how beefd up they are in power and in towing performance. But both are horrible in fuel catch 22 |
you gotta think tho they can do better than that mine is at 10.1 mpg in town and 13 on highway at 70 with cruise:scare2:

on the 6.4 u will have to delete the dpf, but then it wont pass emissions when u have to go thru in 5yrs or whatever and u will have to buy a programmer so u dont get a chech engine light

Gee, my '09 Duramax/Allison gets 15.5 mpg around town and 22 mpg at highway speeds. What gives with the Fords?

I am also pretty upset with the MPG's I have a 2010 and am getting the same numbers you are. In Illinois they dont test Deisel Emissions so taking the DPF off seems like a good move. Question for both of us? If we take the DPF off and then have to get the truck serviced, is Ford going to flip out or will we have to put the darned thing back on before taking it to Ford? Also, will a tuner be needed? :argh: Thanks! :c: |
It's really ashame the 6.4 don't get better mpg without voiding the warranty or not being able to pass emissions. They have a lot of power and run really good just eat you up on fuel when left stock.

It's funny how the parts they're using to produce better emissions, also kill the fuel economy.
Do like everyone else, get the programmer and the DPF delete and enjoy 17+mpg with your truck and a ton more power. I know if I had a 6.4 it'd have this done. Put the DPF back on for dealer visits and emissions testing if you have to do so. ---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Delete the DPF and EGR, and throw a tuner on her and she'll get way better mileage, some guys say they're getting 27+ on the interstate, I usually go ahead and subtract 10 from numbers like that, but 17 mpg in a fullsize pickup of any kind or engine isn't bad at all
