To test or not to test FICM

04 250 egr delete with a high voltage to ICP sensor,Truck runs ok but not like it should.Noticed when I turn the key to heat glow plugs that the clicking that used to be nice and strong is now faint and week.Little smoke when fired up cold that is unburnt fuel.goes away after about maybe a minute.Coolant level same as always.Just did a oil chang with Motor craft filter and rotella t.Running Deisel Clean every other tank.Put on a diagnostic Computer bout 3 weeks ago and no signs of anything wrong on that.Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.:s:

Definitely test the FICM, it only takes a few minutes....

How old are the batteries? Probably a good idea to get those load tested somewhere.

tested batteries on past friday.12.2 in pass. side and 12.4 in drivers side.this is with truck not running and possitive terminal disconnected.Mechanic I know told me the clicking when key is on are solenoids.did not say the function of solenoids or where to find them.should I be concerned yet? Thanks for the info. Will have time this weekend to test ficm.will let you know after. Thanks again.

Get your batteries load tested at an auto parts store, testing them with a multi-meter doesn't really tell you much at all.

Definitely test the FICM too.

The injectors "buzz" when you first turn the key forward waiting for the WTS (wait to start) light to go out... is that the noise you're hearing?

Yes, it is but it fades in and out.they are strong at first. They get weak bcause they are full of fuel?I am guessing. Tested ficm,12v keyoffEngine off,Key On Engine off 39v,Engine running 49v.will get them tested here in bout 30 mins and post back later this evening. Thanks Mdub.

Sounds like a ficm. Should never be lower than like 46 volts

could the repair procedure work in this case? the one that is posted in earlier threads?

Mdub707 03-05-2012 08:52 AM

Yup. I fix dozens of these things. Ask EricC how he likes his FICM haha.

Not to steal the post, but how do you test the FICM? I may be having problems with mine....

And should the voltage be the same regardless of the engine running or not?
