exhaust question

03 6.0L CC SB FX4. Completely stock. i plan on doing a 5" exhaust straight pipe here in the near future and don't like it being quiet right now. was thinking about cutting my cat and muffler out right now for fun until i do the exhaust. would this cause any problems? or would it be perfectly fine to do?

mostly refering to O2 sensors or anything along those lines. wanna let the baby breathe.

Karls03 01-20-2012 11:12 PM

1. There are no O2 sensors
2. It's an 03, there will be a resonator before the cat, take that dude out and it will WHISTLE like a hillbilly missing a toof. However, the down tube/resonator are 3" then it necks up to 3.5" for the cat and muffler.
3. Instead of halfast hacking on it, just get a 4" (5 is over kill, esp if it comes with a 4" down tube) turbo back system and do it ONCE! A 4" turbo back will have a 3.5 down tube.

Read my signature for all the details.

yea i'd be taking out the resonator also. was gonna do it earlier but got nervous and started second guessing. i'm gonna cut everything out behind the trans crossmember so that it exits out behind everything to keep heat little bit farther away than blowing right on everything

The cat and muffler you can UNBOLT you don't need to cut anything. You can buy cat and muffler delete sections for about $125 total. Dfuser.com has them. Prices may have changed, I don't recall.

how would it sound with the stock piping size? i don't want it to sound like sh!t. i wanna have heads turn and the "D@MN that's nice" expression on their face.

I think it only fair to mention that when I bought my truck, the previous owner had removed the cat and replaced the muffler with a 3.5" after market. Whoever did the work welded in the muffler and the test pipe. So, in reality, I have no clue what an OEM exhaust looks like. I know that the down tube and resonator were only 3". I also know what it sounds like when you 4" straight pipe it.

Any way I'd be able to get that cat off you? An '03 straight piped sounds :edit:IN' WICKED, '03 was the loudest turbo whine out of all the 6.0L PSDs

1st Diesel 01-22-2012 10:38 AM

sorry diesel_daddy6.0. old neighbor picked it up off of me. did a straight pipe yesterday and just did a turndown at the back of the cab and she is LOUD. i love it. lol. sounds amazing. i can't complain. turns alot of heads and already had alot of compliments in 2 days.

Diesel_Daddy6.0 01-22-2012 12:28 PM

No sweat, I'm actually working on getting an '03 turbo for my rig...and to think, all the high school and college punks already hate me for how loud the whine is when they're next to the bed with their window down hehehe

1st Diesel 01-22-2012 05:25 PM

haha. yea one thing i can definitly say is that turbo is LOUD. my buddy and i are active duty Air Force and he said it sounds like a C-130 taking off.

You getting the "DAAAAAAAMN!" looks that you were hoping for yet? If so, just wait a bit and you'll start getting the "Thanks a$$hole my ears are bleeding now" looks. Lmao

Don't forget, "That CAN'T be a stock turbo!" :w2: Beware of falling MPGs, it's hard to maintain them when it sounds so good with your foot in the loud pedal.

My indoor/out door CAT knows what my truck sounds like. I've watched him run through the neighbor's yards to meet me at the door.

Getting all sorts of looks. Other day i was at McDonalds on base just sitting in the drive through and a few guys from the German Air Force and civilians were staring at it at idle. Then start eating and i'd romp it real quick and they'd about break their necks looking back. HAHA. yea alot of looks and compliments though. I love it. Sounds like a BEAST.
