oil pressure issues?

drove my truck today, which was the first time in almost 2 weeks. but got about about a mile down the road dash showed low oil pressure. the gauge on the dash was also at zero. the truck drives like normal. and now the needle keeps going back and forth from zero to normal range. anyone else had a similar issue? just wondering if its the gauge itsself or a different, more serious problem.:humm:

I would think that it was a guage or the oil presser sensor becuse if you loose any kind of oil pressure your truck will run really bad or die becuse they use high pressure oil to run the fuel injectors and it takes a minn of 500lb to operate the injectors but i would be carefull. How is the truck running?

thats what i was thinking. the truck runs like it always has and cranks as normal. is there something specific that would casue the gauge to do that?

Yes there is a sensor that could be faulty. I'm pretty sure the PCM would alter fuel output if it was sensing this stuff too...

I gotta ask.. when's the last time oil was changed? What about filter? What oil was used and what filter was used?:pca1:

so is that a problem that would get worse? what can i expect to pay to get it fixed? i use rotella 15-40. oil and filters were changed about 3,000 miles ago. along with fuel filters.

What brand oil filter was used?

churkeepwrstrke 01-18-2011 05:53 AM

thinkn it was the napa gold. before i just used the motorcraft.

Mdub707 01-18-2011 07:43 AM

Yes, use motorcraft only. I've heard of non-Ford filters actually blocking oil flow and trashing motors. Might be worth picking up a motorcraft filter to throw in there... they're like $18 at Wally-world. The Fram is $17 and it's the exact same thing too. This is the only time you'll ever catch me recommending a Fram filter, and I took both out of the box (fram and motorcraft) and they share the same part numbers too.

churkeepwrstrke 01-19-2011 03:53 PM

awesome. i drove it yesterday and the gauge stayed in the normal range the whole time. have you heard anything about those reusable filters. i guess you just clean them out and put them back in.

Mdub707 01-19-2011 07:12 PM

I have not, but I know when I used to race MX on my four wheelers, they were NO GOOD.

Just stick with the Motorcraft or fram filters, I've heard of too many bad things happening using anything else. Less than $20 for a filter is worth it to me when we're talking about a motor that would cost you over $10K to buy from Ford.

You can do oil bypass if you want, that's always a good investment. Amsoil has a nice kit, and of course there is the FS2500, but it's EXPENSIVE.

So what changed, why is it OK now? Did you swap filters or...?
