high egt's

i have an 05 6.0 with edge programmer, k&n cold air intake, 4"turbo back exhaust straight piped. when i run the truck wide open with progammer on extreme the egt's get above 1500. what can i do about this other than drive like my grandma? truck runs great just concerned about temp. anybody have any suggestions?:c:

i'd start by cleaning the maf sensor, probably fouled from the oil in the k&n filter. use no oil on the filter or be prepared to clean the sensor often.
what size tires are on the truck?
how big is the tune?

How long does it stay at 1500*? How long is this WOT run? How much boost are you making? 1500* isnt too bad, ive seen 1800* before I let outta the throttle.

Also, Edge programmers suck. You would run cooler on a custom tune.

jbonebailey 11-14-2010 05:45 PM

it stays 1500 for about 4 sec before trying to get 1600 wot run was about 8 sec boost is 32 i was affraid to try to push it more so i backed out of it

Ditch the Edge, get an SCT with custom tunes.

Clean the MAF oh really? That'd be a great suggestion if he had one on his truck. But he doesn't. Never really heard of one causing high EGT's either but whatever.

um if you wanna run wide open then expect high egt. beat on it and you'll pay for it.

Another thing, not oiling a K&N is like using no filter at all. That filter is 100% useless without the oil on it. If you don't want to run oil on a filter, you buy a filter that is designed to be used that way, like an AFE proguard 7.

yea i know but the truck pulls 20,000 lbs everyday and when you are getting on the highway its hard not to get in it a little. i just wanna try to keep the truck running anymore smart ass comments :td: this is for prison

It's not a smart ass comment. Diesels need fuel to move, too much fuel they get hot. It's pretty simple. If you keep throwing more and more fuel at it, you need more air (bigger turbo) to keep it cool. If you want 600 rwhp and towing at the same time, save your money for some compounds.:c:

In the mean time, you shouldn't be using any of the Edge's settings and towing 20klbs at all.

thx everybody for the heads up on the edge prog. i set the truck back to stock this morning and noticed the egt's never cracked the 1300 mark a friend of mine also told me put the stock air filter and intake back on over the k&n is this a good move
