Pump could be crapping out on you. Could also be a bunch of other things. Any smoke coming out one it fires? What color? No codes? (even if there is no CEL, there may still be codes). Have you had the batteries load tested? That's really the best way to see what they're doing. If the batteries get weak, the FICM sees lower voltages and has issues starting.

my truck is doing the samething.. new bats in it.. my fuel gage has been jumping around on me.. say.. i know i have a 1/2 a tank.. then ill jump in it to start it up and the fuel gage gos to full and it sits there intill i shut her down.. or what ever it feels like doing.. it takes some time to fire up and when it dose it sound all weak intill its runin....

no smoke wen it does fire but wont fire at all now...do i need a special code reader? how much do they cost?...i cn tell im gonna need it with this truck..

Have your batteries load tested. if they test fine my guess would be you have a leak in your HPO system. since you say it's not starting at all now i'd say your STC fitting has crapped on you

jesse757 10-14-2010 06:08 PM

its not the batteries...it will start wen cold the oil pressure guage shows pressure..then wen warm it wont start n oil guage is dead(no movement)..havent read codes yet..dont hav anything to read em..my standard obdII code reader wont read this truck..so i need to know witch reader will..and how do i diagnose wher the hpo system is leaking .? n wats a stc fitting?..im good w a wrench but a lil dense otherwise..:humm:

snap to connect fitting (STC). Quite common on these trucks. Sounds like your problem. It will let the truck start, then once it's warm and the oil thins out, it wont start and it leaks out of the fitting.

do i need a special tool to disconnect it..? or would a standrd ford line dissconect tool work?..and is it located under the plate under the turbo?....do i replace a line or fitting?...or exactly wat do i do to fix it?.....thanks for your help.

You fo to ford and buy the updated kit(4C3Z-9B246-A) with a new design fitting that doesn't wear out. And yes it's the plate under the turbo, remove the intake, turbo and y pipe, pull the IPR valve out, pull the cover off, take 3 torx bolts out holding pump in, take 2 bolts out of stc fitting that connect it to the branch tube. Remove pump. Replace fitting with updated one. Reassemble as taken out

thanks.. do you hav any idea wat a ballpark cost of the part would be....
