Cat's removed, Good or Bad
I have a 06 F250 and have had it for 6 months and have already had the EGR cooler replaced. 52,000 miles, When I took it to Ford they mentioned that the truck has had the Cat's removed. Is this a good or bad thing for the truck, or does it matter? The service manager allowed me to look at the service records and the truck has had issues with the EGR before.
Great Forum, I have enjoyed reading your threads... Thanks in advance!! |
idk about fords but i know our dmax ran cooler with a gutted cat and from everthing i have read it helps however depending upon your state it may not be legal to run without cats

It doesn't really matter it's a personal choice. Makes the exhaust note louder and the turbo whistle is more pronounced.
Sounds like you got a great dealer...some will deny ANY work on a truck with no cat installed. |
It wont hurt a thing, but again noise goes up. Could be good or bad depending on your personal tastes.

like everyone said personal choice. ive heard ppl say it improves mpg to have it gutted or deleted but idk how much if at all. and since u have no emission on the truck they really serve no purpose except to restrict flow and raise egts...
on a side note once ur trucks outta warranty DELETE THE EGR...i went through 6 or 7 in 100k on my turck |
my 04 had zero issues after the cat suddenly disappeared, but the noise level was more to my liking-especially with the 03 turbo

Great Forum, I have enjoyed reading your threads... Thanks in advance!! You mentioned the EGR cooler. Just so you know you shouldnt just replace the EGR cooler or you will have the same problem. You have to go to the root of the problem which is the oil cooler. The oil cooler clogs then reduces water flow to EGR cooler burning up the fins on the inside. You have to change the oil cooler as well or you burn up the EGR cooler again. I flush my cooing system whenever I change the oil and fuel filters. Keeping your coolant system clean is the key to keeping a 6.0 running. |
That's why a lot of guys put the $120 coolant filter kits on their trucks!!! Great investment.
