I have an 06 f350 4x4 that wont go into 4whl in the auto mode. Can this be figured out using a scan tool, or does it need tobe done by ford?

So by saying it wont go in using auto mode, I take it the hubs lock when you put them in manual?

Mine just did this exact thing. It's a vacuum leak on the hubs. Usually caused from the wheel bearing getting bad, then it wobbles and causes the leak. My truck only has 57k miles on it, but they're almost all highway. Luckily I'm getting it fixed under the 5yr/60k powertrain on my 06. $100 deductible, and they're replacing one bearing, both seals and both hubs.

If it's still working in manual mode, then the hubs are not broke. I would just replace the seals, I'll be there is a vacuum leak somewhere, which is why it wont engage in auto.

You may have a vacuum leak else where though, try checking the lines.
