Like many others - hard start - rough idle

My 06 F350 has been starting rough and idling rough until it warms up and then runs great. Also visible black smoke on starting. Ran AE and these were the results. I think they are in an acceptable range but not sure. Any advice will be appreciated.

Forgot to add - mileage is 177,000 + - vehicle is stock except for K&N Air system and sinister coolant filter

The starting rough and not quite right untill warm is a sighn of stiction in the injectors, normally REVX will help out but if they are too bad then new injectors may be needed. You should have a power ballance test done on it while it is cold and not warmed up, 1 or 2 bad injectors will make it sound horrible, you won't have to replace all of them

Thanks Bob

Checked the firing when it was warm and all of the clyinders were firing ok - still trying to figure out AE and how to test the injectors.

I was kinda thinking it is bad injectors - does exactly as you descibe - sounds horrible and Rev X did help it.

Still learning :)

I'd test the FICM before doing anything else...

Sounds like clogged injectors, can either clean the nozzles with a copper wire brush carefully and if that don't work the injectors are just wore out

I would never ever do that. I'm not sure how an injector pushing fuel at 28,000 psi "clogs" either...

Once you determine which injector is at fault, you have to take it out anyway. I'd replace it because it would be a waste of labor to try that method only to find out it was an electronic issue with the injector.

I have tested it on a number of occasions and it tests fine in all three cycles

Like Karl said - If I am going to get into it I will replace the injectors once I determine which ones, if any, are bad.

I also did a cyclinder contribution test and they were all so close it looked like a single line on the graph. Still learning AE so it may take me awhile to figure out how and what tests I should be running.

Cylinder contributions can be tricky, need to almost do it as soon as the truck is fired up cold in the morning as a lot of the issues seem to disappear as the truck warms up, makes it hard to track down sometimes.

It is possible for a FICM to be failing and still who 48+V as well, though not nearly as common, I have some in my garage that do this.

Take a crayon to the manifold and see which cylendars burn hotter those will be you're good injectors the ones that are clogged crayon will melt but not as well
