exhaust help
:argh:i have an exhaust leak in what i think is the slip join between the exhaust crossover and the turbo im wondering if there is a fix other than buying the new upper and lower pieces? can i just weld it or will that mess something up?:argh:

Doubt it but, it sure would suck if for some unknow reason that you have to cut it apart. I figure it would be better to change the doughnut out or what ever is in there. Just not sure if the material changes between cast and steel, or what ever they both are. Keep trying though; someone will point you in the right direction. Good luck!

thanks i was afraid of the cast thing and i looked at the photo of the system it doesnt show a gasket or anything in there thats why im lost
|
Does it have a "V" band clamp on it?
|
if it is the slip joint, take it apart and put some sealer on it then back together. they sell the sealer in the exhaust section of parts stores. it comes in a tube like RTV does. belive it is called acusticseal. or something like that.

:jump:right on thank you again for your help i will try it:jump:

the rear bolt on exhaust manifold drivers side ho do you get to it any ideas i cant figure out how to get the damn heat shield out thats there.
and how long does the acoustic seal take to set up any ideas |
not long. maybe an hr or so. ahh yes, that heat sheild. i used a prybar to push it outa the way when i replaced my manifold.

That was my plan just makin sure I wasnt missing something and the seeker trick worked great thank you. You mentioned welding a downpour from an obd powerstroke to the flange what truck would that be I have one sittin around for a first gen and wondering how hard it would be to make fit
