knockin

84 6.9 150 thousand its got a knock it comes and goes most nicuable after gettin off freeway then idling at a light it kinda sounds like a lifter to me but it seems alot louder it does it sometimes at startup cold but not all the time its verry intermittion. please give me some help thankss

DieselCrawler 10-07-2010 11:03 AM

could be an injector going out. how old are injectors? will it do it just idling? if so, when it is making the noise, take a 5/8th wrench and crack open 1 injector line at a time till the noise stops. this will tell u which injector it is. if it is injectors, i would replace all 8. not to expensive.

mikeproeder 10-07-2010 04:13 PM

it does it idling sometimes yeah its hard to tell and when i go to test the injectors it goes away. im not sure how old the injectors are the truck has 150,000 on it and has just had the injector pump replaced by previous owner but he never said if he did injectors. sometimes i wouldnt call it a rough idle because the engine sounds smooth but it seems a little more rough than normal at times as in it shakes the truck more than usual. kinda like a gas motor with a good sized cam id say. would being on the free way then idling at a stop light cause the injector to act up? that is when it makes the knock the worst. thanks for your imput !!

DieselCrawler 10-07-2010 10:43 PM

look at your injectors close. see if they still have any grey paint on them.

mikeproeder 10-08-2010 02:27 PM

ah ok ill check that tomorrow and ill poast with what iv found thanks

i looked at my injectors and they do have the original grey color to them and they look about the same age as the motor just looking at them. i dont really have the money to replace them is it bad if i just keep running it till i get the cash together? and if they were bought from international would they come grey or would it be very noticable that they have been changed. also i have a pic of what they look like but i cant figure out how to post it if i could get help there too haha. thanks mike

to post pics, instead of just typing the the quick reply, click on the button that says "go advanced" when you get there, you have a bunch of options above the text box. One has a capital "A" for attachment. click that. Or you can create a photobucket account, upload pics to there, and paste the image(IMG) code into the text box here.

DieselCrawler 10-08-2010 06:31 PM

what he said. i am gona guess they are original and worn out. injectors arent that expensive. 40 a peice give or take a few bucks for new, cheaper for remans.

mikeproeder 10-08-2010 09:29 PM

ok cool i did pay more attention to the knock and it does it when cold at first start up for about 15 seconds and off freeway for about 30 seconds to 1minut idling and then some random times between then and sometimes at freeway speeds its very faint at freeway speeds tho.

yep, all original. get some injectors and a return line kit.

FordDZLMan9191 10-09-2010 08:35 AM

Where's a good place to get injectors? BB code are the ones I want right? I'm pretty sure I'm getting to the point of needing new ones as well.

DieselCrawler 10-09-2010 12:01 PM

people have had good luck with oregon fuel injection. also look in town around u for a fuel injection shop. they should have them.

yea, bb code are the good ones.

FordDZLMan9191 10-09-2010 02:15 PM

There aren't any fuel injections shops here where I live. Just a couple general auto shops that tend to fix anything that comes through the door. I would have to travel out of the valley to find a FI shop. I'll check OFI as well.

mikeproeder 10-09-2010 07:58 PM

is there anywhere online i can order them ?

FordDZLMan9191 10-09-2010 08:03 PM

Here: Oregon Fuel Injection, diesel injector pump, injector, Powerstroke injectors, turbo and turbo parts for Ford Diesel pickups 6.9 L, 7.3 L, 6.0 L 6.4 L

I was looking on that site u posted up and the injectors that say bb code say b,bb,c, or d code injectors fit 1986, thru 92. My truck is a 94 the injectors it says for it are E code and g code.

DieselCrawler 10-10-2010 11:44 AM

g code are for the factory turbo engines. but they are smoged injectors. the code bb flow and atomize the best.

all injectors for these engines are the same. a codes will fit where g codes came out of.

Bigred7.3 10-10-2010 08:48 PM

So the injectors that are labled '86 thru '92. B, bb, c or d code are the ones I want right? Even tho my truck is a 94?

DieselCrawler 10-11-2010 06:36 AM

yes. bb code.

Bigred7.3 10-14-2010 05:46 AM
