7.3 IDI Natural to 7.3 IDI Turbo

I have heard both stories but can a naturally aspirated 7.3 IDI be turbocharged by using the turbo setup off of a 7.3 IDI turbo from FORD? Is the compression ratio or fuel delivery different or why would this be different than adding an after-market turbo? :humm:

the setup off any idi will work. my turbo is off a 7.3 idi turboed motor from a 94 f350.

once u get gauges on it, u can turn it up.

Yes it can a buddy of mine bought a non turbo motor to replace his blown up turbo motor. I think all he had to do was use the Manifolds from the turbo motor.

nope, manifolds are the same. the turbos use a dual uppipe that bolts to the factory manifolds.

N/A IDI's were 22:1 compression, Turbocharged 93-94 IDI's were 17:1 compression, over 10 pounds of boost reliability becomes a concern on the N/A motors, Just a FYI

DieselCrawler 07-11-2010 08:52 PM

no idi from the factory was down at 17:1 comp. the full run of idi from 84-94 ran 20:1 to 21.5:1

spoolinaround 07-12-2010 01:04 AM

the turbocharged IDI's were

they wouldnt run. way to low for an idi. would never start below 50 degrees.

The Plot thickens :pca1:
