Lots of horror stories about other brands of glow plugs swelling and going bad. When you try to remove them, the tip is too big and breaks off falling into the engine. Almost everybody will tell you motorcraft/beru or nothing. I recently found out I had autolites in my truck so I scrounged and saved to get a new set of motorcraft plugs.

Shucks/O'reillys carries them for about $15 each, you might check ebay or some other on-line resources and find a deal. You should be looking for motorcraft part number ZD-9.

starting problems

the use of starting fluid has wiped out your glow plugs ( starting fluid should never be used on a glow plug engine ) the new glow plug relay is looking for current draw and as the current changes it will turn off the wait lamp. But when the glow plugs are burnt out the relay will "hunt" looking to heat up the glow plugs that are not working. If you need to start a glow plug engine use wd-40 it is easer on your glow plugs.

When I have problems starting due to GPs,I take a propane torch and attach hose to push propane into intake.Works great.I even ran I line thru firewall, had my bottle in the console, and like in Mad Max turned the valve, wow wee. That was fun, You have to take burner off the end of torch,to get a good flow.
