1994 idi turbo exhaust

Hey yall my name is Ben.

I have been trying for some time now to find an exhaust for my truck but, it seems pretty rare.
I would like a five inch duel if at all possible, I would settle for single. The truck is crew cab long bed and its a 7.3 idi factory turbo. I turned my fuel up a bit and Im just looking for lower egt's, towing, pulling big hills it will spike up to 1350 and Im just not happy with that. I have already installed 3 inch down pipe back no muffler. Thanks for all your help in advance.

With out moving more air your EGT's will be high .... problem with that is your limited to volume = boost .. and these engines " Factory " dont like boost and will have a tennoncy of making life expencive if you boost them up too much ... 10-12 psi is good ...

Take a look at this website ... for more ideas

I already run 10 psi and thats really as high as I want to go with the old truck I mean after all a 20 yr old dually that'll smoke the tires is good enough for me . I just want lower egts. I would really just like to get a big exhaust on in for not just functionality but sound. Do you know anyone that makes a 5 inch kit for these trucks??

I'm not aware of anyone that sells a pre-bent exhaust kit for these trucks in the diameter you are after. The closest you can get is a universal stack kit. Banks and ATS may have a single 3" setup for these trucks. A full 5" exhaust is gonna be overkill on an IDI anyhow. I have the 3" down pipe with a 4" exhaust all the way to the stacks which are 5". Most people will argue the 4" is overkill as well.

The only think I can think of for you would be a water injection, it will REALLY help with egts, it can be a little pricey depending on which way you go about it, but it a highly used product on diesels that tow, many of the horse haulers I work on have them, will ask one of the rodeo people tomorrow once class is back in if they stop by the shop.

thanks yall and yeah i know its overkill for an idi but I just like the bigger pipe for the deeper sound.

I talked to a couple of them and they suggested coolingmist click the name, and someone else noted that banks make's a water injection kit, but can be pricey. However you are paying for getting exactly what they tell you, a over the top, system that definitely has most competitors beat :w2:

a larger exhaust housing is the one way to lowering temps .. is allows more air to be evacuated from the turbo at a higher flow ... hence i have a 12cm housing on my 12v .. my egt get high quick .. by going to a 14cm housing and new wheel set .. problem solved .. :tu:

Its not the piping thats the problem its restriction @ turbo thats gonna be your problem
