adjusted fuel screw ???

I adjusted the fuel screw one flat with small change in power. But what I would like to know is how to get this thing to smoke without the egts going off the map ?

you can't without modding your truck, by adding a turbo, or what I'm waiting to buy is water-meth injection, it gives your truck a cooler and more complete burn and will help lower egt's in higher rpms

Yes, the only way is more fuel=more heat for black smoke, or choke the air flow. Because black smoke is partially burnt fuel, kinda like being "rich" in the air fuel mixture.

My 7.3 is turbo idi I guess ill turn her up a hair more next week end as of now I get a little blue smoke at start up and nothing else

Ok Blue smoke can be an indicator of a few things ... one of which is obvious .. Rings

But the other is Air intrusion into the fuel system .. and by running an electric pump and giving the dinosaur on the side of the block its walking papers ... these engins run better and make more power reliably with the electric pumps ... ( 8-10 psi @ IP ) . :tu:

i guess i was wrong about the color of smoke it is greyish by the time i was seeing it it looked blue to me my friend checked it today said its gray. i dont want it to smoke crazy but just when i get on it id like to see a little also couldnt hear any turbo until i turned the fuel screw up now i can hear the turbo a bit not like other stock trucks but just barley and ideas :argh:

4x4manonbroke 01-21-2014 08:30 PM

Check your turbo for looseness and check your filter to ensure there is not any restriction ... a smmoth pipe from cleaner to turbo can make quite a difference ... the air coming in at high speed can become turbulant through the fluted rubber/plastic piping and causes the air to crash around before getting to turbo and can cause a lack of air actually getting into turbo ... :tu:

also, just for thought, 2 holes that are 1/2" wide will let more air in than a 1" wide hole. Could be used to help with supplying air to your turbo

bigjohn 01-22-2014 08:14 PM

ok it is the older idi set up with aluminum air box strait to turbo i have a k/n air filter on it . im not sure on the conection between the intake and turbo although every thing seems tight .

what about the timing i have read that it can be adjusted a bit as well ?

Dortiz 01-22-2014 08:18 PM

The timing should never be advanced nor retarded more than a dimes worth (thickness of a time) however too advanced and you risk melting down your engine, to early and equally as bad, it takes all of 10 minutes to adjust it, but doing it by ear takes practice. You need a pulsing timing adapter, or a probe light. I did mine by ear, and got it pretty close to 10.5, had to have my instructor do it for me.
