I work at O'reilly auto parts part time, they have a listing for the SMF clutch and flywheel assembly. It was made by SACH's, which is a division of ZF so I assumed it would work pretty good. The main thing about the conversion is that the DMF has springs and the clutch disc doesn't. When you switch to a SMF, you getting a solid flywheel and a clutch disc that has springs instead. Lot's of places will sell the flywheel and clutch together as a kit, I was going to get a south bend unit but my discount at work made the SACH's parts look even better.

Well maybe I need to pull the inspection cover off. I just looked at the surface of the flywheel before I bolted everything back up. About 5 years ago this motor was completely rebuild and maybe at that time they upgraded to a SMF. Would you be able to run a SMF with the stock 4 speed. ? I'm new to these transmissions. I know how to fabricate and get motors to make power. First time messing with these trans combinations.

Not hijacking the thread, but, powerstrokin you said its normal to have to fight for reserve every once in a while for the zf5? Just want to make sure since that's my problem lol

I went up to the local o'reilly's the other day to check out how much a new flywheel would be, the DMF came out to $1089. That was quickly shunned, and I asked the guy working at the time what I would need to convert over to a single, he said he has no idea, and that I might be able to find a not-so-expensive but still expensive conversion kit online. My question is still is I were to buy the single mass flywheel from o'reilly's, then I would just need to buy the matching clutch for that flywheel and I should be in business for everything to work? If that's so I might buy that instead of doing my rust-oleum paint job this month :c:

Ok than this truck must have a SMF on it which makes sense for the noise. Apparently I should have done a little more research before the swap. I got the LUK clutch part#07076when I did the swap. It works great, but technically it says to be used with a DMF?
|
That part number says it is for use with solid flywheel. If you have that clutch and a solid flywheel, then some noise is to be expected. You could over fill the transmission a bit to help tone it down. Some people even run a slightly heavier oil as well.

You are right, I must have been looking at something else. I really appreciate all the help. I will throw an extra quart in it for now, and the next flush maybe give it some thicker fluid.
|
redline makes good fluids and they last good long time .... and yeah I have herd many times 1 qt over full is the only way to go ...
|
What fluid do y'all use? I was think of switching fluids to try and quiet mine down.
