Couple quick questions

Ok, neither of these or major, just wanting some input. On my 1993 7.3L the wait to start light hasn't worked in over a year. I replaced my controller and GP and everything but the light works. I know when the GP are ready by sound and watching my volts. But just this afternoon after leaving the store, I out the key in and the "wait to start" light was on briefly and went out, I'm assuming because the engine was warm, ran another errand, put the key in, no light. Has anyone else had a problem like this?
My other quick question is about my tach. My gauge bounces and seems to be about 500rpm's low. I've found the engine speed sensor on top of the timing gear cover with only two wires coming out of it, right next to the oil fill cap, my chilton says that's it, but all the auto parts stores can't find it and international says the sensor should be near the bell housing. I've called dealership and the wanted about $100, so I was wondering if anyone knows an international part# or another option besides ford.

You are correct about the wait to start light, it goes off of temperatures and if it is hot enough to ignite, then they are not needed, and as far as the sensor, the 2 wires connected to the sensor on the oil filler cover, that is the rpm sensor. They cost roughly $75, for the part. It's also called the cam shaft position sensor

Thank you, but part of my question with the GP is that when cold out they'll cycle, and you can tell because lights go dim and volts drops low for a few seconds and then you can hear the clicking, but my light doesn't work. Except for that one time. Checked bulb and it's fine.

You mean that they continually go for a few seconds, but click on and off right?

Mine do this too, was assured that it is not to far from ordinary

powerstrokin350 12-18-2013 08:54 PM

Yes, I've heard that's normal, they click on and off to help initial warm up, but my question was, no big deal mostly curiosity, but my dash light doesn't work, but the bulb is good. GP work great, just the dash light acting funny.

I would check the connection for the WTS light off the GPR, maybe it's loose, I would think that seems like a faulty ground, long shot, but the bulb itself could be not functioning correctly, via the light is only on sometimes

The tach sensor is a dealer only item, or ebay possibly. Sometimes you can remove them and clean the sludge off the end and get lucky and have it work. I had to replace them in both of my trucks.

I wish my tach sensor was that simple, mine has frayed wires going into the sensor like someone either swung it around their head a bunch of times before putting it on (haha), or that's where they always put their arm or hand whenever in the engine compartment.

call international for the tach sensor .... usually in stock ... or check rockauto ...

Yah, when I went to my local international dealer they didn't have it. Told me they usually ran the tach sensors in the bell housing by the trans, I said nope, mine has two wires, takes about an 1 1/8" wrench to unthread it. Finally talked him to go out there and look at it and he said it was probably a ford thing and they don't have that. Unless I could get a part number. So do any of y'all have an IH part number for these?
