looking forward to see them, I need to start tearing down my 90 f250, I've got a nice cut-out going through my frame rail but I'm putting it off until my other truck is mine again so I have a means of transportation :argh:

cool pics john:tu:

4x4manonbroke 10-26-2013 11:30 PM

Yeah, I'm also gonna post a viedo of it running, and if i can the first start ... will see

Dortiz 11-03-2013 10:06 PM

Would love to see more pictures of how it's going :tu:

4x4manonbroke 11-03-2013 10:12 PM

will have more pics this week ... got the Injector line installed and ready for the return lines and such .. gotta get more time ,... was sick saturday so i didnt get a lot done this week .... when I start it i will have a video and good sound as well... :tu:

Dortiz 11-03-2013 10:14 PM

sounds good, would also like to know how you went about with removing and reinstalling your injector pump, going to take mine off tomorrow once I get back and possibly have it tested to see what's going on inside.

4x4manonbroke 11-03-2013 10:24 PM

made mark on the outside of pump ( like in the inspection cover area ) and just put it back in the same place ... cant be done with a new pump due to possible rotatoin of new pump ... clocking could be different ... only can be done on a pump that has already been timed to the engine .. or pull front cove and all and do it that way also ... either way .... its a chore :ouch:

Dortiz 11-03-2013 10:27 PM

As long as it's in somewhat of a drivable state to where I can bring into the shop and time it, then it's not to much of a worry for me

4x4manonbroke 11-03-2013 10:53 PM

it will get ya real close .... i used a chizzel and made a groove where it was before and just put it back on in same place .. should be fine .....

why is your needing to come off ? ... leaking under neith ?

Dortiz 11-04-2013 07:16 PM

The transfer pump is shot and won't deliver fuel once warmed up cause of the expansion of the head

4x4manonbroke 11-04-2013 08:14 PM

I have ordered a Holley Red pump off E-bay ......
Red Holley 95 GPH Electric Fuel Pump 7 PSI 10150 | eBay

nice lil units .... :tu:

4x4manonbroke 11-10-2013 07:22 PM

ok,
so got it all together and attempted to start ........... NOT GOOD SOUNDS !!!!!! thinking something either fell into a cylinder or ..... maybe th pushrods are different lengths ? .... something one cyl makes a clunk .... and of course ... now my oil cooler is leaking coolant as well ..... great ... more work .... damn this is becoming irritating ...:argh:

Dortiz 11-10-2013 08:23 PM

Ouch :ouch: time for another tear down :s:

4x4manonbroke 11-10-2013 10:52 PM

If I have to ... I'm just gonna tow it to work and pull the engine out all together and do a complete re-do ... not a rebuild ... just a over view and investigate whats goin on ..

Dortiz 11-13-2013 01:43 PM

Best of luck :tu:

4x4manonbroke 11-14-2013 08:42 PM

decided today i'm gonna let it fire up and see what kind of carnage it will make .... i plan on making a viedo for the fun of it as well ... will post it this weekend sometime :c:

Dortiz 11-16-2013 11:29 AM

hope it doesn't go to badly haha did you port the heads yourself?

97cummins 11-18-2013 03:39 AM

no, think he sent the heads out for work.
Hey john, I was wondering. Where did the coolant go you put in the motor before you tried starting it?
I'm also thinking the timing may be off and that's why it's not firing off.:humm::humm:

powerstrokin350 11-18-2013 12:51 PM

Damn man ain't that the way $#!t always goes. :argh:

4x4manonbroke 11-19-2013 08:44 PM

the knock we were hearing 97 .. it was coolant in #4 on pass side ( #7 ) and its because I ha to wrestle the head in under the heater box and I must have banged it a bit ... I do have a video of it attempting to start .. and then Hydro locking . not good .. I'm gonna drain coolant and oil and get back to it in the spring when I can pull engine OUT and do this all the way :tu:

Dortiz 11-22-2013 08:31 PM

Would love to see this video of the attempted start :pca1:

4x4manonbroke 11-22-2013 09:07 PM

I will post it tommrow with the pics

4x4manonbroke 11-24-2013 04:00 PM

Ok viedo posted ... this is the vid where it wont turn over ...

the clunking ( like 5 times ) is me trying to turn it over with starter ... I didnt make a viedo of the original attempt to turn over ... different sounding knocking sound ... the first attempt it turned over and made a real nasty knock ... it was most likley a nearly hydorlock while still just barley able to turn over ..... will be pulling engine this engine this spring ... so for now .. thats alll folks

Dortiz 11-24-2013 05:12 PM

good lord, that sounds aweful

4x4manonbroke 11-24-2013 05:31 PM

right .... wish ya'll could have herd the official first attempt ..... just imagine ... a high compression knock ... with out firing ... almost like when there real cold and nailing or cackling ... only with out firing ... it was a real nasty sound .... not what i was wanting to hear ..... then i thought maybe it was because i was hearing the puff from the head ( passenger side mainfold is off ) and thought maybe that was what i was hearing and then i tried and was filming .. and yeah ... bad news in the making .... so oil is about 4-6 qts over the full mark ... nothing left in the radiator .... SOOO .....

Will pull the engine at work this spring and have her running in no time ... HOPEFULLY !!.. Pray for guidance ... gonna need it i suppose...:tu:

Dortiz 11-24-2013 10:37 PM

That's a headache if ever had one. Sad to see that happen man, makes me a little timid to want to do head work on my truck haha

4x4manonbroke 11-25-2013 02:50 PM

it was the passenger's side head that was most difficult due to the heater box ( my truck has AC ) ... I think thats why I may have bumped the HG and caused my own issue ....... and with the oil cooler leaking coolant externally might as well pull engine and just go for it now ..... shes been a great engine and I fully intend or making it right ... just was hoping to buy a house and then do it at my own pace first .... but .... now will work too I guess !!!! :argh:

Dortiz 12-13-2013 09:13 PM

Keep updated, would love to know how the build goes :c:

4x4manonbroke 12-23-2013 09:58 PM

Ok so I went to a web site ....

R&D IDI Performance ..... I will be building a new engine from the ground up .... if you read about the cam they have .... 34 psi of boost ... dang ... I'm going to swap my dodge's hx35 to the ford and buy a hx40 for the dodge ... acceptable trade im sure... would like 20psi and we will build from there ... I had no idea that they could get these things to go that far under boost ... gonna have to play with this :rocking::choochoo:

Dortiz 12-24-2013 05:35 PM

I've heard nothing but good things about them, and I've been looking at their cam, but would love to see how it performs first, what's the time frame you're shooting for?

4x4manonbroke 12-25-2013 01:34 PM

after Taxes ... i will be buying parts .... need to tow it to the shop and tear down first .. have block and heads looked at and such ... gonna be a time gobbler build .... might take till next winter to finish ... will see

Dortiz 12-25-2013 03:58 PM

I'm wanting to pull the motor out of my truck before school so I can reseal my oil pan as it leaks like a waterfall all over my driveway (The HOA loves me :tu: ) and just repaint the engine, really wanting to do this truck up, but just haven't found the means to do it. Also going to weld up my dual mass flywheel while it's out, it's starting to sound pretty aweful

4x4manonbroke 12-26-2013 02:23 PM

just stuuff a single flat flywheel and re use ur clutch if it looks good ..... welding it will only make it out of balance and then ur gonna create harmonics that will kill engine and trans ..... do it right or dont toutch it ..... my .02$

Dortiz 12-26-2013 04:53 PM

Everyone I talked to said it costs about 700 to convert to a single , but am I able to just swap out a 7.3 flywheel? People are saying I would have to get a new clutch setup

4x4manonbroke 12-26-2013 09:17 PM

Never herd that .. they take the smae clutch and pressure plates from my understanding .... is urz a ZF ?

Dortiz 12-26-2013 10:03 PM

the transmission is a zf5, just looked it up at oreileys, the single flywheel is only $150 out the door, where as the dual mass is $1078.......... :nope: :nope:

powerstrokin350 12-27-2013 03:27 AM

Isn't the dual mass an 11" and the flat a 12", or is that just the flywheels that are different sizes? I remember when I replaced mine I figured I had the smaller one got home and couldn't get it to bolt, went back to O'reillys and got the 12" and it bolted up. Can't remember all the specifics but do remember their is two size options. :s:
