Lmao, you've never had one apart to see first hand? Why don't you go to a real idi forum and learn a bit.

Actally I just pulled my heads off today .... factory head gaskets on this one ... little oil leak mid head on passenger side..... only issue I found in mine is that one valve lock was half way out... will post some pics for ya

I don't think you understood why I posted this video. ..... if you over boost an IDI you can drop the insert from tue cylinder head and cause serious engine damage. .... that's why its not recommended .... and yes u can also have a condition called a blow back. ..... my old man showed me what happened when someone did this ..... over boosted the engine and it caused the fuel to go bang inside the insert .... not sure what numbers this took but it too destroyed the block and head...... food for thought :ouch:

Well you are either really lucky or false info has been distributed. Everything I have been reading about these warns not to boost over 12-15psi for fear of lifting a head. I guess it's hard to say what one motor will take versus another. I talked to a guy at a dyno event who claimed to have thrown a turbo on one of these running 30psi all day long without a problem. I wrote him off as crazy, but after seeing this, maybe he wasn't too far off. How many miles have you accumulated running these pressures? BTW, I love the sound of your truck, sounds like a dang jet engine. :tu:

My 94 has an ats garrett turbo its an idi. I just hooked up a boost guage and it only shows 4 lbs Max of boost..what gives ? Is it because I havent touched the exhaust yet ? Or do I need to turn up my ip ?
Yes I have also installed a egt guage.

Thanks! And My neighbor ran 15-20psi on his idi (6.9 ats turbo , pump maxed) until he sold it. He also could hit 1400egts...these engines are tougher than people think. So I have no problems with mine being abused

Check for intakes/exhaust leaks, plug the waste gate and see what happens...then up the IP
