yes they are essentially the same trans with valve body changes and different tuning

 

just different vb, torque converter, wiring and tcm with the 6 speed trans.

no...if you want to make a 5-speed into a 6-speed you HAVE to get the suncoast kit...

a factory 6-speed TCM will not work with an 01-05 duramax in any way.

The only way to get 6-speeds in an 01-05 dmax is to get the suncoast stol-I mean custom TCM.
