dodge is no longer with cummins?!!??

hearing rumors that dodge is not signing contract with new cummins? is this true? this is going to be dodge's down fall and ruin them if so

wildbill 04-03-2011 04:49 PM

Interesting.

Caterpillar won't design a light truck engine. They even got out of the over the road truck market. Won't have anything to do with emissions. They're all off road now. :tu:

Red_Rattler 04-03-2011 05:06 PM

Two very false facts...

jdbigblue12v 04-03-2011 05:10 PM

so the rumor is false? and i put that in my opinion that they will fall because they have been famous for the cummins

Red_Rattler 04-03-2011 05:38 PM

Of course losing the engine would be the downfall of their hd truck market. The two I was refering to is your first statement of losing cummins. Not true Dodge and Cummins reach multi-year contract extension - Autoblog

And second that Cat is out of the otr truck market Cat On-Highway Truck

Uncle Bubba 04-03-2011 05:47 PM

This rumor hit's these forums every year for the ten plus years I have been active on them. It's never gonna happen.

The other ones that keep making the rounds are that Ford owns Cummins and they are going to take over the Cummins line of engines and we can't forget the the eternal thread that will pop up here any day now about boycotting BP to bring down the price of diesel fuel. It comes out every spring.

There's plenty of info there... It was posted in 2010 and the article states they reached a multi year contract extension. What more do you need? These rumors have been going on since 07... :pca1:

flyingcrodeo 04-04-2011 12:06 AM

The rumors ive heard are

1. Dodge is losing cummins and will be getting a mercades benz diesel motor or however you spell it.

2. Ford is using cummins parts to build there new 6.7 diesel (this not to sure bout dont care bout fords what so ever so i dont bother to read bout them)

3. CAT did quit making diesel engines for pete, ken, etc. for a couple years hince to why paccar designed there own motor (which has cummins parts too) to give consumers more of a motor choice other than just cummins and detroit. But they are coming out with there own TRUCK with a newly designed diesel motor

if i'm wrong about any of this please correct me

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I own a brand new dodge now but if they did lose cummins but got a cat motor i would trade my new truck in the DAY the new one comes out with a big yeller cat motor under the hood!!!! It would be bad-ass..... just sayin :c:

LORDDiESEL 04-04-2011 12:09 AM

I hope cat gets rid of that heui crap.

dukeboy_318 04-04-2011 04:15 AM

Once again, its all rumor. every bit of it. the ford using cummins has been the dream of ford owners since 89,

2nd, dodge and diamlyer split, diamlyer owns mercedes, they wont be putting a mercedes motor into a dodge truck.

If you all think these rumors are true, well, ive got some ocean front property in Kentucky to sell you too

C16 power 04-04-2011 06:32 AM

CAT does make a light duty engine, the C7 which ain't that great. As far as making on highway trucks they're just a rebaged international prostar with the crappy egr/dpf deal. Any on highway 07+ CAT is a nightmare! This coming from someone who has owned 3 (3406B, 3406E, and pre acert single turbo C15) the day CAT stopped making a good engine was when they came out with the acert crap in 04. I own a 12.7 DD now and can't be happier with fuel millage. Paccar is only kw and pete can't get a Detroit I'm em since 03 since freightliner owns them. The isx cummins is the only way to go now if you want big power and reliability.

flyingcrodeo 04-04-2011 01:43 PM

we got 2 FL80 frightliners we had all custom redone to pull livestock trailers to rodeo's and stuff and they got the lil cat motor's both with super 10's and we get along pretty good with them and our 06 kenworth that pulls a pot has the ISX in it and yes it's very dependable and tons of power! Love it and our 03 pete has one of the last good CAT motor's and she's still runnin strong!

Actually cat just released there first on road truck built by cat, powered by cat.

Here is something to think about. Fiat ownes Case International, which used cummins motors for decades. Now for 2011 no more cummins.
Cough, cough, who ownes Dodge?? Fiat, if they are dumb enough to drop cummins in there farm tractors they are dump enough to drop the cummins engine in the dodge ram. I just hope they are not that stupid.

zach_west 04-09-2011 07:42 PM

well the red tractors weren't good enough to have cummins in them. it was just a disgrace all along. just saying.

I don't know about that I have had good luck with the red tractors. I have a 2009 John Deere 7230premium with 1300 hours that I bought new, so far I am not that impressed and Kind of wish I would have bought the Case IH Puma instead.

Mike H 04-11-2011 09:31 PM

my neighbor is a diesel mechanic who works closely with many dodge/cummins employees. What he has told me is that the cummins contract that was signed way back when will be running out soon...but that is not to say that they will not sign it back. The contract between cummins and dodge has been a huge success not only helping move dodge trucks, but also just getting the cummins brand out there. I agree with what was said above about all the rumors that spread.I remember hearing that fords new diesel would be a 7.2l cat diesel...if only ha ha.But Ram trucks sales would plumit without the cummins.:choochoo:

prison 04-11-2011 10:46 PM

lets be honest hear. those of you who drive dodge's....would you drive that truck if it didnt have a cummins in it? do you actually like the truck or do you tolerate it for the engine? i've found most tolerate the truck for the engine

Red_Rattler 04-11-2011 11:03 PM

Ive owned more than a few Dodges b4 I switched to a diesel :tttt:

yea i still would drive a dodge even with out the cummins in it. i havent found another truck that will take the beating my dodges get daily. and to answer ur last question i LOVE the truck my cummins is tucked into :tu:

prison 04-12-2011 05:00 PM

lol dad owned one dodge. sister owned one jeep. neither will ever go near them again.

zach_west 04-14-2011 07:13 PM

im not to impressed with the premium series tractors to tell you the truth they are small underpowered and the dealership charges 2 much 2 work on them(which the mechanic gets none of). shoulda got an 8R series just because of how awesome they are. and if cummins went elsewhere i would 2 not much a fan of the dodge but love the cummins.

tolerate the truck for the engine. If the day ever comes that I can afford to put it into a 05 ford, id probably do it.

Pyro690 04-17-2011 12:03 AM

I tought they had a deal till 2016. I could be wrong. :humm: :c:

themoperman68 04-23-2011 07:42 PM

I have owned 5 dodges 2 with the Cummins in them , 2 with 318s in them and 1 with the 5.7 hemi in it . 4 out of 5 have been good reliable trucks and the other one has to but it is the 2010 RT Classic Challenger and I still own one of the cummins an 07 mega cab . I will buy dodge again . And as for who owns Cummins ,Cummins owns Cummins now.:jump:

dukeboy_318 04-23-2011 09:59 PM

Well being that I live in columbus where Cummins is headquarters, i can tell you this rumor is false. I have many friends working for cummins. Dodge and Cummins signed a contract just last year to extend their partnership through 2020 with an early extension option in 2016. I actually got to see the new 2012 motor just last week in a tour and a buddy of mine is on the team working on the next gen dodge cummins set for release in about 3-4 yrs(no, i dont know specs ratings or anything of that sort so dont ask)

Seriously these "rumors" about dodge and cummins are getting old, it seems that every couple weeks someone is posting up the same old rumor thats be around for over 20 yrs. Trust me, Cummins is the center point of this town, and so is its contract with dodge. Hell, the paper prints a 4 page article everytime cummins announces that they are doing anything, hire 20 employees=4 pg article. Put in new bathrooms=4 page article.

97cummins 04-24-2011 05:48 PM

(Seriously these "rumors" about dodge and cummins are getting old,)
agreed

zach_west 04-24-2011 07:41 PM

ya i've heard all the rumors. but then again people need something to talk about always. only believe what you hear when cummins releases it to the public.

XChris1632X 04-24-2011 11:11 PM

Not going to happen anytime soon but I wouldnt say never due to the way emissions are headed. I work for Ford and straight from a regional directors mouth, "Ford is looking to drop the Powerstroke in 2015". They are having too much success with the Ti-VCT and ecoboost technology to deal with the pressure from emissions and the cost of replacing all the EGR parts.

with that being said, if ford brought out a superduty with the cat, i would buy it without thinking twice. i miss playing with cat's, miss the sound, miss everything about them. that would be fords only real way to play with new cummins and the new duramax's.. again just my personal opinion.. but yes i would gladly get rid of my 7.3 powerstroke for a super duty with a cat.

Rustin 04-25-2011 03:41 AM

They have them in service trucks. you can find an F-450 with a CAT. Not many of them were made. They started to build them in 2001, not sure when they stopped.

ZombieSoldier 04-25-2011 03:44 AM

trust me bro, if i found one at a reasonable price, it would be in my driveway.. but i know they probably would want too much for a used one

If Ford had half a head on there shoulders they would have develped a inline 6 instead of a V8. I don't care how good there ecoboost engines are. If Ford drops the powerstroke they would be doomed in the HD market.

If dodge didn't have the cummins and had a different Diesel It would be between Ford and Dodge and I would go with who ever I thought had the better motor. Chevy is not a contender because of the front axil, when I have a load on the truck and I am locked in 4 low I need to know my front wheels are pointing forward and are not going to break.

Have you been in a 2010+ truck the ride is great, the interior is top notch. I jump in a new chevy and it is like a tin can compared to the dodge. Plus the history I have had with dodge as far as durability has been unbeatable. I have owned Ford Superduties I know how the Ford vrs Dodge compare. Dodge trucks have been way cheaper to maintain get better mileage, and pull better.

breck1392 03-23-2012 11:50 AM

What Dodge is losing Cummins???? Who is going to pick up the 5.9 GM or ford?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I am sorry I had to post that as far as dealing with dodge to have a cummins.... If you don't like having a dodge but want a cummins why don't you put a re-manufactured 5.9 in your ford or GM???? I know of a company that builds remaned 5.9s I bought one from them and have been more than happy with it

89silverbullet 04-02-2012 01:52 PM

ford makes cummins. troll complete.

Eddiebuntain 04-02-2012 03:03 PM

I suppose technically "Dodge" is losing Cummins cuz now it's "Ram" trucks, your not supposed to call'em Dodge Rams according to the press releases I've seen. Ram still has Cummins, Dodge is cars now and any diesels there will most likely be a Fiat derivative.
