x2! for 15k you could have one bad a$$ engine trans combo for that! thats why they call them the stealerships lol.

There's a thread running on Diesel Power's forum where a guy did his 2nd gen rebuild for around 7k himself.

Sounds like someone is trying to sell you a bag of potatoes and you'd end up getting road apples instead.

it's time. theres that near 7k number then theres hours and hours of labor. not many shops around here rebuilding anymore. not cost effective

madmikeismad 03-10-2011 12:50 AM

15k is just outrageous though

This may be a late reply for this line. I'm new to this forum, but not to the dealership game. Forget the dealer, find a local diesel mechanic. If there isn't one nearby, call around your state.

I just went into upgrade my brakes at a 4x4 specialist, and don't you know, I have a front end that is needing full replacement according to the hustler at the counter . . .wanted 2800 dollars. None of it was true. Just wanted to sell some business.

Use your head out there.

For 15K that better be a built race engine, that has a balanced rotating assembly, fly cut pistons, cam, ported head, fire rings and all that. Where are you located?

Where are you located??

You can even find a pretty clean new truck ( new used) for 15k, so the hell with the stealership:c:

EasternAggie 03-18-2011 02:59 AM

I think you could buy a Cummins crate engine for less than that :nope:

Mendomotox 03-22-2011 07:09 PM

I can't see 15k being anywhere reasonable. I've seen whole trucks for that in the sf, bay area. I would find a second opinion from a good diesel mechanic. That sounds crazy to die at 160k. My buddy just retired his '90 d350 at 750k, something seems screwy:td:
