Need Help
 

I have a 99 extra cab 4x4 and I love it but I am not sure whats happening when i get on it it feels like the rear end is twistin or something is clunkin in the drive train and i went to put in 4 wheel and it would not enguage the front drive line would spin but it would not spin the front tires. got and sugestions that i could do to figure this out. I also have the superchips programer on it its not the one that i want but it works for now just got the truck

Sounds like several different issues here. I'd start by jackin the truck up on each end, without pullin the truck down on ya grab each wheel and try to move em around. Your checkin the wheel bearing s here to see if there is any play in them. While the front end is up put a bar under each wheel and lift them some, if there is any movement of the wheel without the drivetrain movin the ball joints are worn out.

This would be where I would start anyway.

also, if your tires arent spinning in 4x4, most likely its one of two things,
A: you have a vaccum leak somewhere, you need to get under the truck and check the lines coming from the front axle that run to the T-case and from the t-case to the vaccum pump under the hood. ill take pics later and post them for you.
B: if your lines are good and nothings discconnected, then most likely its the 4x4 acuator that has gone bad, itll need to be replaced.



Now to check the rear end, drive the thing down the road with your windows down and let off the throttle ad put truck in neutral, if you hear a humming noise or a metal scraping noise coming from the rear of the truck, its most likely the rear gears and it may need either replaced or rebuilt. not uncommon for that to happen, esepcially if one doesnt check fluid levels or uses the wrong fluid in the rear diff. another way to check is to jack the rear end up, pu jack stands under the rear axle and try to spin each tire a couple full rotations, if the rear is bad, youll feel it bind up in some places. Both tires should spin, if only one does, you may have a spider gear problem or even a broken axle, hope this helps.:pca1::c:

You should also get a look at your u-joints to see if their wore out.

well it turned out to be a vac. line on the t case and on the rearend i jacked the rear end up spun the tires and did not feel anything bad or hear anything good then i stuck it in first and went back to the rear end and put my ear up to the back of the diff and didnt hear anything bad. got anymore ideas???:humm:

hmmm, after reading this again and seeing that you found a vaccum hose disconnect, sounds like we fixed the 4x4 problem. now for the rearend.

When you spind the rear, do both tires spin in the same direction or does one spin opposite?

Do you know if you have a limited slip(aka anti-spin diff as dodge calls it)?

If so it coulds be that the springs inside the limited slip are going bad and that could be why when hammer the throttle you hear it engage/disengage.

i would say that it is pos. they both spun the same way.

then my next suggestion is to change the diff oil and check for metal particles, it probably could use a change anyway, watch carefully as you drain it for any sparkling or shiny particles.
