Bed Liner?
has any1 done the do it yourself rhino liner bed thing?
buddy of mine did it, the kit from the auto zone, i didn't think it turned out that nice, he didn't keep the truck long after he did it, but you could tell it wasn't going to last long, started to fade and peel after a couple of months. and i am sure he didn't do it halfed assed or anything, he has painted a few times before. i have line-X on my chevy 2500 for work that was done perf. and it is holdin up real real well.
my buddy and i did it on his rockers aand you just have to take your time to make it look nice. it is just like my turbo liner but 500$ cheaper.
my rockers look great for $60
Did use herculiner a couple of times and did exactlyas direction said to do and within a couple of months the liner was pulling off, have come across a new stuff which is sprayed on with a gun that they sell with the product which looks like what I am going to try and use on a flatbed that i built for my 79 gmc. it is called protex made by SEM automotive Web site is SEMautomotive .com
dont get hurculiners is junk get the duplicolor ive had it over a year and it has held up to drunk people, mudding rocks, road salts and gravel. theat stuff is tough if it is preped correctly, and done in a heater area
The last owner that had my truck before i bought it put on the do it yourself crap.:booo:It was peeling off when i bought my truck, hated the way it looked:booo: and had the line-x put on.much better.:U:
well i wanna give it a try. i guess the duplicoloer one is the one im hoing to go with. thanks
thought about getting the herculiner. guess ill go with something diff. Just didnt want to pay crazy money that i dont have. Good advice though.
herculiner sucks if it doesnt peal off it will wash off :booo:
ya hurculiner is crap it chips off so fast it aint even funny, you want something that dries hard not rubbery. the duplicolor i have had great luck with so far
I did the herc on a couple of trucks. I know how to prep and did a great job both times. Within 3 years it was just flat out wearing off. It also didn't hold things in place worth a damn.
I use the Duplicolor stuff for a few things and have been happy with it so far. I painted the new ramp I built for my trailer with it and it's really holding up. It seems pretty hard though so I think it'll let stuff slide around if it's used as a liner. I just don't think you'll find the quality in a DIY kit like you would with the industrial stuff from companies like Line-X. |
i put the herculiner in last summer, chipped on the first load, but i didnt have the money for the line x or rhino at the time and the bed looked like crap before hand so its an improvment for my truck. take your time with any do it yourself kits for sure, took 8 hrs to get it fully spread on. anyone know what a line-x job compared to a rhino lining job price wise is
rhino is cheeper as is turbo liner. the duplicolor really works well. i did the hole underside of my truck with the spry cans and it looks and feals solid, im still very impressed on how well its holding up to my rockers tho. also im going to do my headache rack with it theis summer after i get it rebuilt
where do you get the duplicoler at?
nap has it for i belive $60 a gallon
I went with a duraliner...was going to do with the spray in liner and do it myself...but desided against it because 1) you have to do a lot of prep to get it right..so I have a couple gallons of unsued liner..so I went with a duraliner because the floor is made if a rubber type of material that does not slip, cut and covers any holes in the box made by the removel of my goose neck hitch
also I do not have to remove the whole liner to keep the bed clean and it also leaves a cushion so you can get on your knees and will not get hurt but I have seen do it yourself spay in liners and they are good if done right and if you get the good liner and not the cheap stuff it lasts in color for ever...the person who I saw it in hs lasted over 2 years and never had a problem so it is you to you one what you want...I just desided after I cleaned the box out and cled it down and primered the box..it just had to may holes from the mount to weld and fill in...all I did was put in flat mount bolts and filled the holes..and you can not see a thing...makes the box look like new |
i wouldnt even think about putting one of them damn things in my truck, id rather leav it normal. more rust forms under them that=n it does with just paint on it
Line-X its worth every penny. I've had it done to my past 3 trucks now with no regrets.
ya linex is good stuff, my step dad does all his work trucks with it, its 5 times better than rhino lining. but for the money if you dont have alot, the duplicolor stuff is worth it it has held up great if preped corectly and it was cheep for us low income folks

I'm not rich by any means.... I wish I was though. :argh:
