I've had on of the kilby setups for about 7 years. I just move it from truck to truck. One of handiest tools to have. It takes a certain pulley on the compressors and a right hand suction I think. I have burnt up a couple of compressors but they were used ones off of cars.
I got the last compressor from a tractor supply for 110 a couple of years ago.
You can use them as is, I like to put a check valve on the compressor side so it doesn't leak back threw the compressor when it kicks off. I've got them hot enough they lock up, let them cool off check the oil and go on like nothing ever happened. The lockups were from air leaks and having them wired hot whenever the truck was running. I put toggle switches on them now and just turn it on when I need it.

gwhammy - does yours still have the clutch on it? It seems like you could hook it up with a pressure sensor to switch the clutch off when it reached a certain pressure and then come back on when it hit a lower pressure.

You have to buy an inlet air filter for the suction side...then just run a pressure switch in your tank....battery to toggle switch....switch to pressure switch...pressure switch to the compressor clutch and your in buisness....as i remember most of the parts can be purchased through grainger. As a matter of fact here ya go

ive thought about one on my dually but it will be easier to just wire up an electric one and run it to down to a set of air tanks on the frame.....

I'm with the guys up at the top of the thread. There's all kinds of medium duty Ford trucks with the 5.9 that have air brakes. Couldn't that setup be integrated to a 2nd Gen truck?

I don't see why air compressors aren't more common considering that you can buy the parts all at a Cummins dealership, or steal them off a donor engine. Most I've seen are Holsets (Cummins brand). Cummins specs engines with SS296's, QE296's, SS338's, QE338's, ST676's, QE230's, et cetera. Air intake flanges off the intake, coolant supply and return fittings, and oil supply and flange fittings are all available along with the front gear cases and gears to mount the compressor.
