Denny T Stage II Fuel Pin Review

6 Attachment(s)
Received my Denny T Pin today and had to toss it in the 89 RIGHT away. Let me just say before we get into the meat and potatoes that this thing ROCKS!!! there is ALOT more fuel at full boost and it seems that the truck is more responsive all through the power band. Anyway I figured I would do a quick write up while I was at it so as always hold on and here we go! Oh and if you want one here you go http://www.dennytperformance.com/

First I had to pull out the truck and unload it from the trailer since I never did last weekend. Seeing as how Steph has the 06 Cummins at work I had to use my 98 Chevy hunting truck... Think I got the tongue weight about right? :D
Attachment 55686

I'm short... Thats a fact... :D Just ask DM, Benjamin or any one else on here that knows me. So even at stock height I need a little help to be comfortable. Here is what I use. A Pro-Step. If anyone is interested in more details PM me and I can fill you in. This one has had a rough life outside but it still works great!
Attachment 55687

Well here is the pin... I'll put up a comparison shot up in a few.
Attachment 55688
Attachment 55689

The swap is REAL easy so I wont go into to much detail. Here is a list of tools you need;
  • Socket Wrench
  • 12mm Socket
  • 10mm Socket
  • 10mm Wrench
  • Flat Head Screwdriver
  • Maybe a Hammer

First, using your 12mm socket, remove the Banjo bolt on the rear of the AFC housing. Be careful of the two copper washers that seal it. If you lose one it wont seal and you will have a nasty boost leak.

Then take your flat head screwdriver and remove the four screws that hold the top on the AFC housing. If it has been a while and they are stuck a firm tap on the top of the screwdriver will loosen them up.
Attachment 55684

That black rubber piece is the diaphragm grab hold of it and lift. The pin is attached to the bottom. Grab you 10mm socket and wrench and up bolt it.

Here are the two pins side by side. You can see the difference. The pin works by allowing the fuel rack to move out farther allowing more fuel under boost. The stock pin on the left is rotated to its deepest setting.
Attachment 55685

Now just reverse everything making sure you install the new pin with the open face pointing toward the front the truck.

If you would like to contach DennyT for a Pin you can reach him by e-mail @ dennytperformance@yahoo.com

i didnt know rotary pumps had a rack... :tttt:

RSWORDS 10-25-2008 11:41 AM

Yes it does... didn't know that huh?

LOGANSTANFORTH 10-29-2008 09:14 AM

what happens when the stock fuel rack pin falls into the pump and locks the fuel pin........common problem on a pin with a very deep grove like the Denny T pin.......

Never heard of that and you cant pull out the pin w/o taking the pmp apart. I have cycled mine ALOT of time trying to free it up with NO pin in it and it has never fallen out. I even used a set of needle nose pliers to pull it out al lteh way because it was sticking trying to work it free an it hits a stop. Logan you are the only person tha has ever said anything about that... You have any more info?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Oh and as far as what would happen if for some crazy reason the rack pin fell into th housing... You would loose AFC control... Be like having a ground foot... Turn off the truck and fix it. It's not like the truck would run away... just smoke.... ALOT

The_Head 10-29-2008 10:01 PM

I've got one coming too. Looking forward to getting some more fuel.

bigdaddydiesel 10-29-2008 10:22 PM

Sounds simple, I guess I would have to go buy a truck that needed it first though...:w2:

The Pins are $100 shipped (about half the cost of lesser aftermarket pins)

I have asked Denny to come sign up over here.

I got mine in yesterday. It is aright. It is certainly not what I read from other people's accounts... it's alright, but it's not woohooooooo this thing rocks!!! If you know what I mean. Maybe it's because my truck is an auto, I dunno.

Mines an auto too... Run it a while and pull it out to check the mark on it to make sure you get full travel. I had a boost leak and the pin was not traveling all the way. Also what else you have done to the truck?

The_Head 11-22-2008 10:03 AM

I have no boost leak, I did gain about 2 lbs doing the pin though.

Denny T contacted me.. I guess if you haven't turned the pump up, the pin is not as effective as it can be...

My pump requires a 1/4" extension to the full power pin which I haven't done yet, so my pump is basically running stock right now. When we did the 366 spring we turned the screw all the way and nothing happened.

Did you turn the right pin? Have you taken the collar off the pin?

The_Head 11-22-2008 02:46 PM

Yeah we messed with the correct pin, the collar is still on I think. Did not look at it today.

However, I did find out I had forgotten to reconnect the banjo bolt to the aneroid, so I'm an idiot.

I got the cooler tubez on today and reconnected the banjo bolt.

It runs better now, much crisper response. Next step is probably a torque convertor and shift kit.

It's long gone. Took it off when we did the spring.

RSWORDS 02-11-2009 09:07 AM

dodge92 02-16-2009 07:42 PM

hey i dont know if you guys know much about the "old smokey" fuel pin but will i face the divot in the pin towards the front of the truck or how do i put it in there? if you would answer that itd be alot of help for me

Richie O 02-16-2009 09:05 PM

The deep part needs to face the front of the truck.

puddlepirate 02-18-2009 02:20 AM

Bobby do not melt you 5.9 before I get there, and I might need the use of the trailer while I'm back thata way as well. The wife wants to start moving stuff into the Newport News house while we're down. When are you going to be putting intercooling on that piece?

RSWORDS 02-18-2009 08:15 AM

why whould I intercool it? It does not pull a trailer

RSWORDS 02-24-2009 08:55 AM

Cummins Cleghorn 03-21-2009 05:00 AM

Does He ship to Canada? And has anyone ever compared the old smoke pin to the Denny T on a dyno? (Just wondering):humm:

RSWORDS 03-21-2009 03:33 PM

Yes Denny will ship to Canada. might cost a couple extra bucks. His Stage II pin is alot deeper then the Old Smokey pin.

Okay since the postings as to where a fella might be able to order these pins began, I have checked the eBay links that have been afforded here, however they are no longer showing as available and the seller show as having nothing on eBay at this time. Could anyone please help a Gen I Cummins guy out here please? Thank you all :5:

RSWORDS 04-06-2009 03:38 PM

I told him about this. I'll let you know his answer

RSWORDS, Thank you for the e-mail address and I have sent him a message as to that info you provided.

The_Head, Yes, I have a '96 Gen I. I purchased an extremely beat up bodied '92 RAM 250 for 3K, but the engine was well cared for and only 180K on it by an original owner, than I found a -96 RAM 2500 4X4 L/B with blown V10 but body was like brand new for 2K. So I had this great idea :humm: and took what I could and built this one. :U:

Spending only 5K for both trucks to making one was much cheaper than spending 7-10K for a decent used one in which I would have still needed to purchase the upgrades and then I have not seen too many Gen I trucks out there for sale that were in my taste for body condition as most seem to have rust or just not taken care of. Seems all the good conditioned units out there, no one is wanting to part with it yet.:argh:
