Turbo Silencer Ring

I have heard about pulling the turbo silencer ring. Is there any negative effects to doing this? Is it a hard thing to do? Has anyone done it and then regretted it because the turbo was TO loud? I like to hear that sucker whistle, and my Chief told me about it, so it's something I was thinking on doing. Any input is appreciated!!

A silencer ring is a metal baffle placed into the turbocharger inlet to reduce whistle from the turbocharger. It is installed in Ram truck engines at the request of Chrysler. The silencer ring has no effect on engine output, EGT, or boost levels.
Removal:
Remove the flex hose from the front of the turbo that goes to the breather. Just inside the turbo, you will see a snap ring that looks like a piston ring (charcoal color), very gently with a small flat blade screw driver, lift one end of the snap ring out of the groove, then continue to work around the snap ring, lifting it out of the groove. When the snap ring has been removed, you can easily remove the silencer ring.

it is not hard to do. takes two flathead screwdrivers. and in my truck it sounds like the turbo is in the glovebox. just make sure not to get any dirt or any thing in your turbo.and it is a very sweet sound, not at all too loud. dont know why the dingbats put the silencer in too begin with.:humm: Im convinced they must have something wrong with them!:ha: good luck with takin er out!

we took it out of my buddys truck, turbo is a little louder but not much. took maybe three minutes to do, if that.

when i took mine out it made alittle differnce in the loudness but when i added my afe intake on the whistle was louder than my current super phat shaft 62/14 now mine wistles and makes a vacuum effect so load you cant here the person next to you that and combined with my 5" stacks you cant even hear yourself think

So with an intake and custom exhaust, it might get a little annoying on those long over the road rodeo trips? Both are getting added to the truck, and my stock turbo is not that loud, thus making me want to take off the silencer ring. My buddies 6.5 GMC turbo whistles louder, and he's always rubbing it in my face....I tell him at least I can drive more than 100 miles with out the thing overheating. Anyhow, I want to hear it, but at the same time not have id drivin' me nuts.
