Expect the T5 to die especially a 4cyl version.
|
I am glad to see the positive input jax how about some reasons bearing failure?? cant handle the hp?? oh I forgot I am only putting out about 125-150 hp explain your reasoning please I would like to know some sound facts as to why this tranny will not hold up it us the same tranny that they use behind 400 hp v8 and they hold up as long as you are not mental and slam gears if it is a 26 spline tranny then it is set up for the more hp and it should also be a wc t5 they are built better than the first ones built lets get some sound reasoning here
|
Have you made any progress since we last talked? I haven't done any more on mine, and might be getting side tracked because I just scored on a 2.2 Kabota and may see if it might work better.
|
well getting parts rounded up I am going tomorrow and get the tranny tomorrow I really need to change the input shaft to a 14 tooth I have a clutch for that and they are available without modifying I just wish it would warm up so I can work in the barn and get the 2 torn apart at least get the mercedes engine out so I can get the tranny fitted to it so it is ready to mount in new chassis
how many hp is that little kabota ?? I think 60 would be the least I would consider I had a datsun 720 year ago that had a diesel and I think it was 45 and it was underpowered if you get into trouble adapting tranny give me ring icame up with a fast and easy to make a adapter ring Dennis |
Witch flywheel are you running I am having to run a 85 back flywheel?
|
I am using the flywheel from a 240 d 79 model the 240 and 300 use the same flywheel there are a few out there go to car-part.com is where I found mine if you need a bell housing good luck there they are hard to find
|
I am doing the same but I am putting mine in a 95 s10 because on the obd2 here.
I have tried to run the auto trans but it will not shift so 5 speed here we go. how are you shutting the motor off? ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I bought the adapter to turn the Md into a Chevrolet for the trans but as I said it take the 85 back flywheel and the 5 speed is out of a 98 s10 with a 4.3 so bell housing is all in one |
Corvette74, I am using the overboost solonoid out of the Benz to shut the motor down. Dennis, I'm not sure how many hp the Kubota is, but some say they are easy to tweak and a turbo isn't out of the question. I pick it up tomorrow, so then I can get some measuring in. I am more interested in MPG's with this one, it is also IDI so veggy oil may be an option.
|
I can call the salvage yard here they are right next to where they make gehl skid steers I bought 3 engines from him a while back I might even have a turbo for that let me do some looking when it warms up

|
just wish it would warm up I am leaving in am to get tranny should have shaft and bearing stuff to change the tranny to a 14 t spline first of the week
|

Got snow on the ground here in WA to. suppose to get into teens tonight. pretty cold for around these parts. Where do you guys get adapter for bellhousing? I was thinking of putting MB in my 83 bronco. I have 300 6cyl gasser now and I figured with some simple mods I should be able to get the same power from the benz. I think they are about 2 liters smaller. the 300 being a 4.9. I ain't worried about speed, just goes back and forth to work and aound in the woods.

My mom is in vancouver. I live in LOngview. If you don't mind pm your number to me and the next time I go to Vancouver I will get a hold of you and see if we can meet up. I would really like to see it. MY bronco is full size, I don't think that it is that much heavier then a Cruiser or cherokee. don't know.

picked up tranny today

I drove about 6 hrs today and picked up the tranny I was wanting it is a 95 t5 and I was hoping that the chevy bell-housing is longer than the mb and it is by aprox 1" will get more measurements next week here are some pic the clutch is a 85 s10 14t pp is mb and tranny is a 95 have parts coming to convert tranny to 14t should be here next week
corvette 73 also sent me some motor mount pictures I am going to share also they look too good not to share with all of you :jump::jump::jump: |

had one more picture
|
sorry it is corvette 74 sorry mark

Making progerss, thats great! When I got my parts I think the Benz trans input shaft splines were even (depth wise) with the bell flange, but on the Ranger trans the pilot end is even with the bell flange. So I figure the difference between the Benz trans and Ranger trans input depth is about 1 1/4 in. Don't have a t5 to compare.
|
it the weather cooperates next week I will have the mb motor out and have my new input shaft an be able to get some real measurements an be able to get adapter plate made will keep you posted you should start a thread about your Ranger I would like to see what you are doing

How that I have my trans problem under control I need to ask about the waste gate on the om617 in my S10.What is the best way to set it up it works on vacuum it think.
Vette |
the waste gate is on pressure not vacuum if you have a boost gauge I don't think I would go over 14 most are using a needle vale to control max boost in the pressure line from manifold to waste gate open the needle valve for less boost if you have eliminated the over boost shutoff then you should just have 1 line going to it when i find a picture I will post it

cleaning
4 Attachment(s)
well the old Mercedes is all cleaned and stripped down removed injectors and will remove pre chambers tomorrow and adjust the valves also made the wrenches to do it and they work great if any one wants a set let me know I am selling sets also waiting on flywheel bolts took a couple pics on progress
|
1 Attachment(s)
removing the locking nuts is being a challenge and the prechambers well after removal of the locking nuts on 3,4,5 1&2 will not come out soaking with wd40 now the pre chambers are to my surprise a thread size that is really uncommon 22x1.0 I found a thread size you wont believe this but a bicycle puller has the same thread size needed for the prechamber puller I bought it on ebay for 13.99 pretty cheap have the bolts for the flywheel valves are adjusted will overhaul injectors this week have my pop tester built does any one know the range for the injectors to pop off at that is the best for fuel economy

prechamber puller picture worked fantastic

I finally put my injector tester together and wow talk about slick i figured i would share it with all of you
pump torin T71101 ebay 39.99 11.65 shipping gauge 3000 psi liquid filled 10.00 brass t and I brazed an old injector line to a 1/4 npt fitting so slick and smooth and under 75.00 with no modifying all tested at 2000 psi |
Very nice!!
|
Deck, your going to use the baby GM bell housing? I'm thinking about putting a 3.0 in my 94 S10 if I can find one nearby. :pca1:
