I have a complete 06 5.9 with 150 on it. I bought it new changed oil every 5k with shell rotella and it has the complete wire harness on it and computer I'm just not going to give it away though. complete with alt/ps/ac/fan/exhaust manifold/turbo/everything. make me an offer. I dont need money and I will use it one day. But if its a good enough offer or trade we might have a deal. Let me know. And PS AWESOME JOB on the conversion. I want to do a post that has links to all parts needed to fully make the swap functional
|
Great idea. As soon as my new laptop shows up in the mail I will get everything started. had some parts delays so a timeline on parts would be a good idea too
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also need to put all The mods to engine trans and driveline to make one of these things fit |
Looks good man. That will be an awesome rig when completed. :tu:

finally got access to a computer. here are some pics for you guys. i will type up all the parts, locations for them, and the things that need to be modefied to make a bastard child like this. as you can see in one of the pix i used a brass adapter for the ford thermostat and im looking for an adapter for the oil pressure sensors. as of now i have found out the hard way that the entire driveline needs to be pushed back 1.5 inches. you can do this by flipping the trans mount/bushing around and taking a die grinder to the wholes to make them oblong. then shorten the drive shaft. you also have to shave the bolt whole out of the zf6 trans to get the hex bolt for the 6.0 starter through the adapter. so far i have cussed ford every day since i started this project. we got really lucky that the power steering high pressure line was long enough to reach and we have sent it to ohio hydrolics to get a male end on it. 2mro i will figuring out the wiring :argh:

Teckjohn,
What are you looking to get out of you 5.9 for sale. Email me ccoleman8@aol.com. I have an 07 F450 I want to put it in since my 6.0 imploded. Thanks Chris |
i have decided that when the swap is complete i will post a thread with step by step instructions and a list of parts, locations and prices for future swaps. i have been contracted to drop a 12 valve in a 01 f250 2wd gas auto as soon as this one is done. and then a 4bt into a jeep wrangler. my intent is to take some more classes and become more familiar with these electronic and emissions nightmares. EGR'S and DPF's are for COMIFORNIANS not americans:moon:

new pics cmon and a vid of the first start

what clutch do you use? Cummins fly wheel, ford clutch?
|
You could keep the driveline in the stock position but would need to use elect. fans, but I'm thinking 12v, the CR might be a bit longer:humm:

today I installed the Air Dog system which was pretty simple yet time consuming.had to cut and weld a bracket for the air dog because of the secondary trans cross member. i labeled all the wires for hook up. still working out some bugs and tweaking things a bit more pix comin soon and hopefully a start up video by thurs but friday is a little more likely ---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Sweet dude. I have given numerous people overviews (parts, prices, etc.) of my swap who were interested in doing the same, it can really help someone out. If it hadnt been for FordCummins, mine would not have gone as smoothly, but I had nearly every part I needed when I started my swap thanks to their manual :tu:
Big thanks to the PREBLE COUNTY DIESEL CREW!!!!!! |

Well the contract for the 2wd swap fell through because of sky high fuel prices and I have referee the jeep to preble county diesel because i don't have the time to do it in 2 weeks
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Crc. i have access to a common rail with 150 on it in the 4k ball park local. I'll kno for sure if its still available in the next couple of days |

ok, sorry for the wait. we have had a few rush jobs come through the shop and other problems with the swap. before i turned the engine over with the starter i decided to hand crank it just to be sure it was all turning freely, the bad part is there was no turning it. so we pulled the trans out and found that some parts of the bell housing were rubbing on the pressure plate. so i have inserted some pics of exactly where to grind and just a heads up these damn zf6's are a pain in the ass to get in and out. NOT VERY WELL BALANCED. i got some of the wiring done and had the drive shaft shortened 2". installed all the gages. got the inter cooler plumbed, made and installed the GO pedal bracket and working on getting the freakin clutch fan off. who ever the hell invented the clutch fan should be shot with salt rock and then tied to a post for the barn rats. the last one i had to take off was on my old f350 i eventually said screw it and used the torch to cut the nut in half!!! ENJOY THE PICS

here are some more pix of the pedal bracket in the making for future reference.i also cleaned up the ZF6 while it was out. and from what i have found out the mass air flow sensor plug from a 6.0 is supposed to be what you need for the pig tail for the pedal. hope that helps someone!:c:
funny story, we ordered a new throw out bearing fork for the trans since it looked a little worn last saturday it was supposed to be hear monday and didnt show up. so i called ford and they said the truck that was bringing it was broke down on the side of the road and it wouldnt be hear till later in the week. being a smart ass i had to ask if it was a FORD!!!!!!! the reply i got was a phone being hung up LMFAO Attachment 19979 Attachment 19980 Attachment 19981 Attachment 19982 Attachment 19983 Attachment 19984 Attachment 19985 Attachment 19986 |

I was able to tie the exhaust in today, finish the inter cooler plumbing, make a cover for the fan shroud so it looks good and you dont loose any fingers, ill finish it in the morning. made alot of progress on the whole thing. i had fan clearance issues when i started today and i remedied them by taking a 1/4 inch off of the dowel that is in the rubber inter cooler bushing for the mounting location on the core support. and drilling wholes in the radiator support brackets about a 1/16th in front of the factory ones. ill have pix of that 2mro. its really looking good and getting close to a start up vid. i have added up the down time from parts delays and it ended up being 2 weeks waiting for the clutch from south bend, by no fault of them, its the start of pulling season and they had a whole bunch of clutches in to get rebuilt. and a week waiting for the throw out bearing fork from ford. so thats a total of 3 WEEKS OF DELAYS!!! so keep that kind of stuff in mind guys when you start a swap like this IT NEVER GOES AS PLANNED....... i installed a small button from a machine that we rebuilt for the grid heater, it will be wired to a ford starter solenoid so it can get the required juice to work. simple operation, push and hold for 10-15 seconds and hope it starts! a lot of people delete them and some for good reason. high horse power or live in a warmer climate. for us it needs one to reliably start in any part of the country. the little amount of restriction is minimal considering that ive seen in the 800hp range with a stock intake elbow. which restricts more air than any thing in the system. so with the cfm+ it should flow just fine. but if your just going to delete it to make it flow better, know the consequences good or bad. cold raw fuel, ice cold engine and cold air are murder on everything. my advice for future swaps is read, read, read, ask questions, and book mark as many threads as possible. I'll be 26 in a week and this swap gave me grey hair. Wtf. It's all simple to me now that I've done it. My advice to the next person would be to use the complete dodge drive line. It makes things go so much easier and there are no surprises
|
Same advice I give to anyone that does one of these. And I felt the same way about mine.
|
HELLLLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its been running for a few days now, and i have been trying to figure out why i can only get 1k rpms out of it. ive ohmed everything, double, tripple checked, quadruple checked all the wiring. and today i decided to mess with the wiring sequence on the fuel pedal. so i had a little help from a guy at work and he said lets take the two set of APPS. wires and touch them with the 5 volt supply wires and see what happens, well it red lined and would go gently trough the the rpms if he worked the wires right. but the when hooked up like they are supposed to 1 5 volt live 2 apps no 2 3 apps no 2 4 apps no 1 5 apps no 1 6 5 volt live or in that general order, i dont have my papers with me right now it wont read the pedal till hit hits 3/4 throttle and then its a slug getting to 1k rpms and there is no in between. could it be a bad tps/fuel pedal, even though it is brand new. |
