I can't give you much for detail but a guy in my area has a 4BT Cummins in a early-mid 90's (?) F150...only seen pics and a dyno vid a buddy shot. There are more vids on youtube of diesel half tons and smaller ranger/dakota size trucks.

6bt that mofo

chromehound 11-25-2010 11:03 AM

I think the 6BT would be way to heavy for the 1/2 tone front end and all the extra work to get it to work would be a pain. It would be cool though but way to much work. My .02

well thats what thinkin will get ya lol

but just kidding dude :tu:

back to the subject.... the 5.9 is a very possible swap for pre-97 F150s. but as far as I know, there are some pretty big space issues for 97 and ups. FordCummins doesnt even sell a conversion kit for 97 and up F150 for the 6BT 5.9 Cummins

It is possible to put a 5.9 Cummins in your 2000, but I think the 3.9 4BT would be an easier swap. Any other questions just holler.

I figured the swap wud have the truck laid up for a while. I am just trying to figure out how much budwiser it would cost me to keep my buddy interested in helping me do this. I wud like to have the 5.9 plus my old man has one. in the junk yard I just really was thinkin about coolant issues with rads and that type of stuff being a major issue

My project is probably a completely different animal than yours.... but here it is.

Workin on my mine over summer break, bout 3 or 4 hours a day, it took somewhere between 3 weeks to a month, with lots of part hunting all throughout there. And I switched my radiator out for one from a 96 Powerstroke, but I had to change the radiator support too. Mine was a relatively smooth swap, but Im thinkin theres gonna be a lot more issues with yours if you choose a 5.9. Anything is possible, but it just depends if you want to take the time and do the work (and spend the $$$) to do it.

Take my advice, and give FordCummins a call, theyll probably give you the best advice you can get. Their number is on their website at FordCummins.com :tu:

yea I will take your advice and look in to ford cummins I dont really wanna spend to much cash I would like to use most parts i cud get my hands on like I said my old man got one in the yard but im not looking to do a swap that becomes a money pit and aggravation

What are you planning on using for a tranny? Does the 5.9 that you have already have a transmission with it too?
