Mercedes 300d 5cyl turbo swap
 

Was very inspired by mercedes to wrangler swaps on website. Just purchased 84 300d to swap into a wrangler. Engine and trans now out of car. Any helpfull hints would be greatly appreciated. thanks jeep-dsl.

This weekend we bought the 95 YJ Wrangler with blown 6 cylinder to do the mercedes 617 turbo diesel swap. Engine is now out and working on the 1st adapter for flywheel.

I have no info for you. I thought it would be wrong of me not to post. Just make good measurments, which I am sure you already have. Excellent Idea never heard of anyone doing that. Just so you know those power-plants have very good Mpg on the highway. some have been able to do well over 75 and still get close to 30 mpg. when you start the mods for more power and efficentcy I would starrt with the Pistons. look at the way the fuel has eched a path on them. The preinjection chamber I would leave alone. The piston is the area to look at for now. The Pumps are euro boch and are capeable of 3200psi in stock form.

I don't have any experince with any of the mercede's diesels but I hear that one is a pretty good engine. If you really want a lot of info start searching around www.4btswaps.com They have a complete section on the mecerdes engines.

Just be careful with the ballance of the flywheel when swapping. The factory ballanced each motor individually as a complete assembly, making the finall adjustments for ballance on the flywheel. So each flywheel has different ballance. Make sure you mark the position of the flywheel to crank (the hole spacing is even) so you can match the ballance of your new flywheel. You should be happy with the performance of the stock motor in the jeep so long as you have the valves adj. properly, free flow exhaust,egr delete, cold air intake, good injectors and the correct gearing (around 411 depending on the tire size) good luck!

Rarely. Most flywheels are neutrally balanced. Still, care should be taken to make sure its not one of the 1/10 that isn't.

One is already installed as stock equipment.

Check out the threads by Vlado, FTE, and myself. The 5 cyl Benz swap is not that bad. The engine is the perfect size for a Wagoneer/Cherokee IMHO...............
