Hello all. Been lurking among different forums and finally gathered the courage to do the swap. I started Friday June 18 and drove the family to a campsite 150 miles away on Saturday June 26. I still have some things to tweak but overall came out good. This website has really helped. Engine is 91' non intercooled. Trans is 95' 47RH. Transfercase is 90' NP205. Thanks for all the info. Final assembly and end results of where everything ended up. Love the new drive shaft. I think it's made of gold! The shop thought so as well. lol I've still got to make some mounts for the trans cooler lines and wrap up some wiring.

that is bad ass a plus job :tu:

Driveable but not finished. Still need to do some wiring touchup. I'm waiting on 4" exhaust tubing to drop it out the back. I'm also having problems with od and tc lockup as in it's not working. I just ordered new solenoids and i'll install them this week. So far it drives and sounds great!

Thanks redneck11.:c:

kick ass burb, :rocking:

Update. I replaced the OD/TC solenoids. That made a huge difference! I've got them on a switch for now but intend to install the pressure switches. I topped the fuel last Saturday and we did a lot of city and a little highway. We were running 70 mph one way and 74 mph on the way back. I've got 410 gearing and 35" tires with the pump turned up a little and averaged 16 mpg. I also fabbed up some new shift linkage. I tried using the stock Chevy stuff and it didn't turn out so well. Something I didn't realize is that the shift pattern is from back to front on a 47rh.:argh: I hope to get after the exhaust soon. Question: How many are running straight pipes? Do you like them over mufflers. I need to get the Burb inspected here in Tx at end of July and was wondering if I can get away with straight pipes or should I put a muffler back in it. Thanks

Awesome looking truck! Was it a hard swap?

markp 07-07-2010 11:05 AM

LOOKS GREAT!! ,, and you didn't take long to do the swap. Good job,,,,,

Brianb 07-07-2010 11:15 AM

K50, the most difficult part for me was deciding what eng mounts to run and what to design for a crossmember. The auto shift linkage was a PITA but wasn't high on the difficulty scale. I used the stock burb transfercase crossmember and the 47rh trans mount. That worked well. I'm using the burb intank fuel pump for now and its ok. I will upgrade when I have more funds. I gutted the electrical and kept only guage wiring. The temp works great but the oil press is backwards. The dodge sender reads differently than the gm. I intend to put an Autometer setup in there as well. All in all it was good. Suburbans should have came with a CTD to begin with. It's an entirely different vehicle! Thanks Brian

For the oil pressure sender, just use the sender that came from your burb. Might have to use a bushing to fit the Cummins threads. I swapped a Cummins into my F350... all the guages work great, including the speedometer.

The cummins looked like 1/16 pipe and I believe the gm is 1/8. Do you know what it is for sure? Appreciate the info. Brian

SWEET:tu:

markp 07-08-2010 05:28 AM

I think the Cummins is 1/8" pipe thread. I used the original oil sender port on the Cummins, but you can also use the one on the top of the oil filter base, if it is easier to get to. Stop by the parts store, and compare the two threads,,, easier than trying to measure in a tight spot.

Mileage update: We completed a 655 mile roundtrip up Cloudcroft,NM over to Carlsbad,NM and back home. Our overall fuel average is coming out to 19.5. I seriously believe we could have been 21-22 without any mountains. That's doing 73 up and 70 back. CTD made a huge diff in the mountains. The old gasser would have sucked bad! I'm looking into 3.73s and a posi. I'm hoping to get close to 25mpg. I bet it would do it with the wife driving as she is a lot lighter foot! So far this conversion has been a great idea. That's what I keep telling the wife anyway!:w2: Still need to finish the exhaust but I'm enjoying the noise too much. Still haven't taken care of the Oil press either. I have indication, it's just backwards. I'll put up picks when I get the exhaust done.

Very nice swap I hope one day I will be doing almost the same swap. Have to finish all my training first.:rocking:

Brianb 04-24-2011 11:01 PM

Update: We have put approx 5000 miles on the conversion. Engine is running like a top. I finally installed a 4 inch exhaust but still need to put a tip on. Not a lot of room with the np205 in there. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Awesome swap :tu:

And I would just run a straight, you shouldnt have any problems running one in TX

Update. I've made several changes since last post. I've installed a d60 front with crossover steering and swapped the rear 14b to an 03' AAM 10.5 with parking brake in the rotors and 4.10 gears and a Detroit locker. I had to cut the perches on the rear and weld on new ones to change the width. I've scrounged a 97' 4x4 nv4500, upgraded the 5th gear nut and resealed it. I had my dodge np205 machined to accept the larger input, purchased a cast iron tail housing for the nv4500, a new spline coupler, Valair confe 13" clutch and mated it all together. I just serviced it and installed in the burb this weekend after fabricating a new trans crossmember and new tcase crossmember using diy4x np205 tcase mounting kit. While I had the engine out I installed a Fleece bypass kit at rear of block, new freeze plugs, refabbed the engine mount plates and installed urethane mounts in them. I made a new engine crossmember that is easier to remove and install as well. I have also gutted the core support to make room for the 97' radiator and intercooler. I put the intercooler and radiator on the engine side of the support and want to install a Vintage Air Monster condenser with dual fans in front behind the grill. That's the plan anyway. I've got Ballistic shock hoops to install, upgrade the fuel system, purchase and install the clutch hydraulics and it should be driveable again. I'll get pictures together tonight and post. B
