89 blazer engine swap to 93 12v

im about to start a swap on my 89 blazer i just bought a 93 12v cummins with a 2wd getrag trans i got for 500 bucks but i got to swap it over to 4x4 whear can i find parts to get ether the 4x4 trans with the 205 or change mine to the 4x4 trans

first off you might want to look into the strength of your frame. also your going to need heavier duty front springs and probably a dana 60 front axle. the cummins engines are heavy. if you already have a 2wd tranny, just use a divorced transfer case.

im going to do the dana 60 swap down the road i already did a 14 bolt so im all 3/4 ton right now isnt the 12v about the same as maybe a big block i would do a divorced but my truck is a little short for that i am also lifted 8 inches

finding getrag 4wd's isnt all too easy. as for the same weight, not even close. there probably another 500 pounds on that cummins than a chevy motor. try and at least get some heavy duty front springs from a 1 ton diesel

I will look into how much different they weigh

just trust me from experience man it wont hold. put it this way, my 3/4ton chevy 4wd that came with a 6.5 diesel, i put a cummins in, and it smashed the front end down like a foot.

just do some reading on it, everyone that has done these swaps will agree that it wont hold up on a dana 44 or stock springs. you are going to need to reinforce your steering box on the frame as theyre already prone to cracking the frame. the weight of the cummins will make it that much worse.

you are probably going to need crossover steering as well if you dont already have it from lifting your truck.

and again id be worried about frame strength on a short box 1/2 ton truck. these motors produce massive amounts of torque, and can twist your frame if you get on it. just some advice for you

A big block chevy is about 700 pounds and a cummins is 975 so yes u are right it does weigh more so maybe I will add a leaf in front but I will wait till I have the motor in

As for the frame I did the steering box already and I do have plans for the frame I also have a sm465 in my backyard with a 205 would that bolt to the getrag besides the shafts having different splines?

tltruckparts 01-26-2010 05:45 PM

no the bellhousings are different. they make adapter plates but theyre really pricey. id recommend just finding a good getrag for it with the transfer case with it is a must. the 29 spline np205's are nearly impossible to find on their own. that way everything would bolt right up and work no problems.

No I don't want to run the 465 I wanted to see if the t case would bolt up oh and I need to get the stock air box and the stock inter cooler cause I want to get it writen of as a diesel so no more smog oh and I looked at the 465 t case and it won't just strait bolt on

tltruckparts 01-26-2010 11:33 PM

ya i believe the cases are different as well. if you need a complete used air cleaner assembly let me know, i got a couple of em.

make sure you look into your local laws first. some states wont legally let you put a full size diesel in a 1/2 ton registered truck
